Vaping in the stadium

People who vape in designated places where it’s allowed are not. People who puff away on a train, or in a shopping mall, or a McDonald’s are.

It’s up to the vape industry to prove its products are 100% safe for users and more importantly passively. They haven’t and in fact there is clear evidence that it is harmful, to a lessor degree than cigarettes admittedly, but it is harmful.
There has been some evidence of popcorn lung. No evidence of seconder inhalation causing problems.

The rhetoric didn't come from you, but it's in the thread.

Like I said, long term effects are unknown, because vapes haven’t been around or studied enough. It’s a billion pound industry, like cigarettes before it. They don’t have the desire to prove it’s 100% safe, because it’s a cash cow. I shouldn’t be exposed to the risk of the unknown

It’s annoying, but there’s little point getting wound up about it as the people willing to sit and vape in their seat couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks. That’s as far as it goes for me.

The stadium is located pretty close to a chemical plant and a major trunk road, both of which will be emitting much more harmful stuff than someone’s Marlboro Strawberry Fruit Shoot.

I vape, but I wouldn't do it in the stands, basically as it's banned and inconsiderate. If I didn't vape, I think I would much prefer that over someone dropping ass biscuits next to me all game mind, or some ****-head talking crap.

I can semi-understand why they do it, as vaping you need to keep constantly topped up with nicotine, it's not like a cigarette where you get an instantaneous hit, and it can last 45 minutes or whatever. It's not an excuse though, either accept the rules or don't go.

The thing is, when vaping, you can take it back and not even breathe out any vape, so I'm not even sure why people would create clouds of vape, other than the amateurs. The amateurs (those passing them around) are likely only doing it as they're drinking, as booze massively increases the urge for nicotine if you're a casual smoker.

The yobbish behaviour on booze is probably worse mind, and overall more damaging to others, as (from studies) inhaling vape seems about as dangerous as drinking coffee or having a microwave meal, and breathing it out is probably far less than this.

The club should allow vaping in small areas of the concourse though (smoking still outside), most people vaping are doing that to try and get away from actual smoking, and they need all the help they can get (especially when drinking).

Vaping has been around for 20 years mart. It has been diced and sliced by the scientific community.

I agree the manufacturers should prove the level of risk, but they won't the same as brewers and distilleries.

There are probably some risks, much lower than cigarettes. I would be more concerned with them being targeted at kids, to be honest. Candy floss flavour isn't aimed at adults.

It took 50 years for any serious traction for cigarette harm.

I’ve given a couple of links, they are not proven safe passively

Vapers choose how much of cloud they create. You can buy some that give next to nothing and others that are like a smoke machine.

I’ve pulled away from traffic lights in a cloud of smoke because the car in front has vaped with its window down.

As a vaper has already said, it’s inconsiderate to do it around others.

They are very unlikely dangerous passively to an adult. You shouldn't vape around young children, you risk addiction and damaging lung development.

You cannot seriously be comparing scientific endevours today with 100 years ago, surely?

That’s an argument to ban anything that has been around for less than a lifetime. You can’t apply that principle *. There has to be at least some consensus around evidence or plausible mechanism for harm. But there isn’t. Instead, people extrapolate from smoking because it looks the same. And that probably actively contributes to the reason there isn’t the same consensus as there is around smoking in crowded or indoor spaces.

It shouldn’t happen as the Football Club has banned it and it’s within its rights to. There’s a mix of reasons why organisations ban it, but they mostly come down to that being what the majority of their stakeholders want or what produces a quiet life.

*- although it’s worth a try. I can’t be sure that VAR won’t make my head drop off in ten years. It hasn’t been around long enough. Can we ban it?

Of topic a bit but I think I am the only football fan that loves a bit of var.

I'm happy with VAR for offsides, needs a bit of good mature process to be used properly in other circumstances. I wouldn't be against a tennis type system where the manager can make maybe 2 challenges per half.

There has been a fair number of studies. Last I looked there were some doubts about unregulated flavours being used that it is unknown what heating the chemicals produces.

In their bare form the ingredients are very unlikely to produce carcinogens. It's veg fat and flavoring.

I get why people dislike it and its against the rules in the Riverside. It shouldn't happen.

The rhetoric labelling people who vape as selfish is nonsense. Some are, I am sure, same as any demographic.
Vapours in general aren’t selfish but People vaping where they shouldn’t be very much are.

Stoke match last week , steward came up to me my partner and brother-in-law and asked which one of us was vaping as he'd seen smoke in our direction , none of us vape or have ever vaped, no one near us vapes , I suggested it might had been our breath in the cold night air , he wasn't impressed stood there for 5 minutes then left WTF

Astonishing that the discussion of banning this that and the other. Using stewards like troopers to control sections of the crowd. Enforcing rules imposed by the leader.
Sounds like a micronic reflection of whats actually going on in our country.
If only we worried more about the real world than that of a football ground, the scale of attack on our freedoms and liberty might become more frightening - and we might lift up our eyes

It’s not a freedom though. It’s banned 👍

I don't disagree with this viewpoint. The club should be enforcing it. No idea if it was done with fan consultation or not but rules is generally rules.

Don't disagree with the sentiment roofie, but the discussion was very specifically about vaping in the ground.
