LUTON PRIORITY POINTS

We shouldn't remove them, but we should open them up to others.

You gained a gold card status purely because you had a season ticket from the opening of the Riverside.

So basically in 1996/97 season you were a Gold Card holder because you had a season ticket for 1 season....yet there's season card holders who've had a season ticket for 25 years consecutively who still aren't regarded as a gold card holder.

That in itself is just ridiculous.
What would you suggest? 10 years consecutive gets you gold status and a drink? I’d be fine with that.

But why should those who initially purchased them and continue to do so miss out because a few people don’t like it? Should we remove the gold status? The chairman’s drink?
Yes. I’d say the same argument applies to all three. They’re just some of the many examples (if pretty trivial ones) of my generation climbing a ladder that was available to them, and then happily seeing it removed for those who come after while they continue to benefit, and still have the cheek to accuse those later generations of acting entitled.

It’s not about the hard yards. The difference between those who are prepared to put in the hard yards and are part of the group that fell the right side of this cut off and those who are prepared to put in the hard yards but fell the wrong side is the arbitrary cut off. The arbitrary cut off creates the closed shop. The cut off is what is wrong.

People could buy them but hardly anyone did, those who did continue to be offered it for their loyalty. I don’t see the issue.
Peoples circumstances change.
Maybe make the original 100 or so “gold card “ away S/T holders if you want but they should be available to buy for everyone or not all.

Yea sorry saw that .
Just thought Rob was saying it was confirmed on previous page but having read it again he is just quoting your original post I think

No. These are people that go to every game season after season after season. The ticket office know them all. Most of us know each other. We are there at Cardiff, Bristol City and Swansea and were last year and the year before. You just want a ticket for Sunderland and Huddersfield. And don't want to put in the hard miles.
"Don't want to put in the hard miles".

"You just want a ticket for Sunderland and Huddersfield."

I would love to see the cross section of people who are within this group.

Not a good look this, Rob. Elitist and out of touch.

Literally putting other fans down and yourself up because they have lives outside of MFC, aren't a club insider journo, an anorak or someone with the time and money for such ventures.

And you've the audacity to tell people where and how they can distribute their points.

Surprised mate, genuinely. Is this a blind spot where you defend your own privilege?

Also I agree that there’s a smack of arrogance around the post, accusing others you only rewards it you put the hard miles in

Quite elitist like you say, and traditional conservative view. Same with using your ticket for family and friends it would fall under cronyism

Exactly, wonder how committed you'd be to going to those games if you didn't run a fanzine or get paid work relating to the club.

And again don't see why this needs pointing out but if you were fortunate to get in to those early local away games with a season ticket - you don't have to put in the hard yards. You can just get your local / big tickets and get the points to keep you towards the top of the tree and avoid the more difficult expensive matches to travel to. Meaning that people who can't afford season tickets. Can't afford the long trips because they don't have the time or the money then never get the opportunity to go to the Sunderland away game. While those at the top of the tree can go to whatever game they want and don't care that others will never get to experience that kind of game.

Yes I get that loyalty has to be rewarded but writing a message like that just makes you sound privilaged in a way that a lot of other people aren't.

Steady lads. I don’t think Rob meant it the way you’re reading it.
There IS a lot of sacrifice going to every game. I’ve not quite managed it this year but did last year. Used all my expendable cash and most of my holidays at work.
You do have to put in the hard miles

A full season of away games must cost a fortune, never mind the time commitment, taking time off work etc
Hats off to anyone who manages it once, never mind year after year.
You must have a very understanding other half, or are single.

Because it's not open to everyone ...... just the "elite" who put in the "hard yards" ..... FFS - what if I'm in a position to do that now when I wasn't back in the day ... or more appropriately, my lad who would now like to do it but was too young then

Your attitude is exactly why Gold Card / Chairman's Drink / Away Season Ticket needs changing

They were available, only so many took them up on the offer. It was then discontinued but available to those who still had one. I don’t get why people are complaining about it.
Because they’re available to an elite club and not everyone. They shouldn’t have been a thing in the first place when away tickets were a free for all, now there’s just no place for them. If the points system is doing it’s job then these people will be automatically at the top of the list.

Don’t you think it’s hypocritical for Rob consistently tell us how essential and great the priority points system is, whilst knowing full well it doesn’t apply to him?

You saw his reaction to the suggestion he should have to use the system too, clearly he thinks he’s above collecting points like the rest of us. Automatically assumed I was a part-time fan who only wanted to go to local big games. If that’s the response someone like me who has a season tickets and attends several away games a season gets I can guess what he thinks of those who do only go occasionally.

We currently have a VIP lane for hospitality, a secret handshake club for away season ticket holders, tickets for staff and a closed shop for gold and chairman’s drink card holders.

Younger fans who can’t afford hospitality packages can’t buy an away season ticket, can’t get a gold card and can’t get a chairman’s drink. Why? Because of their age.

All I’ve called for is a fair, open and transparent system.

I don’t see why that’s remotely controversial.
