Who are Boro's Italian team?

So to the delight of my fiorentina friends we beat both Lazio and Roma.

We played Brescia and Hagi scowled on the bench.

We opened the riverside against Sampdoria.

We've had Ugolini, Maccarone, Festa, Ravanelli, Branca.

But do we have any kind of connection or mutual respect with another Italian team?

I find myself accosted by the Fiorentine friends I've made and they respect our history of incidence of glory over long term success. The city is amazing.

But am I committing a sin in making Fiorentina my Italian team of choice?

Always liked Fiorentina, particularly the bright purple kit going back to the Batistuta and channel 4 'Gazetta' days. That kit with the 'Nintendo' sponsor on the front is a classic. So I'd say its not a sin, it's a decent choice, so crack on.

I'd always thought back in the day Boro had a lot in common with Parma, smaller club (well if not small, certainly not one of the league's giants in any sense), punching well above its weight.

Personally I also have a fondness for Cagliari, mainly from playing as them in Championship Manager Italia back in the 90's.

Didn't we play a team back in 90s? Can't recall but I'm sure the town was meant to be somewhat similar to the Boro?

We played Sampdoria in the opening exhibition game of the riverside and the Fiorentina lads seem to think Sampdoria like us although that could be lost in translation.

Fiorentina and Parma have always been my teams of choice and I have 90s shirts of both.

If there's no decent affiliation otherwise then Fiorentina might be the team for me.

We also played Brescia. I've got an old Baggio shirt of them but never thought we'd be considered aligned in any way.

I would’ve thought Sampdoria due to first opening match at the Riverside, seeing as though we have no other ties with anyone else. But Fior isn’t a bad shout.

We've often played in inter's colours of course. Don't know if that original away shirt in the 70s was intentionally based on theirs? And a few playing connections too in Ince, Festa, Branca and Carbone.

There are some many great Italian clubs. As a kid, I remember really liking the Sampdoria side that won Serie A and got to the old European Cup Final in 1992. That team had Vialli, Mancini and Lombardi in it. My personal favourite side is Milan though. They've had some wonderful teams over the years, but are a bit stuck these days.

The OP missed out Pisa!! They reside in Italy’s second tier. The leaning tower is an iconic building. There is a river. Lots of industry and they struggle. We can empathise with that We played Pisa away in 1993 and was a great trip. Oh and I nicked a poster And have it framed.

Yep, cracking poster. I'd buy a print. Would also look great on a t-shirt (club shop people if you're lurking 😉).

Used to like those small oblong landscape billboard ones at the back of the east stand at AP. Pasted on though. Middlesbrough V

I'd definitely buy a print or t-shirt of that like.

I think as I'm starting to love the city and this is the first Italian place I've lived and made friends that I'll stick with Fiorentina.

They nearly spat out their Aperol when I told them we had Batigol sewn up if it wasn't for those three fcuking points.
