Hungry kids robbed

Stick the boot in? It's a football message board, where opinions differ. I'm not exactly around your breakfast table telling you your opinions are terrible.

Anyway, I'll leave off - but it's in no way 'bullying' to express an opinion.
It’s not an opinion though is it we are talking about food and you are telling me I like bullies because im a Tory. That’s not an opinion it’s an accusation about my character.

For anyone questioning the validity of this, or stating that it is just "one woman on the internet", check out Jack Malone's Twitter feed. She has been requesting and curating pictures of these food packs from all over the country and the picture above is far from a one off.

It feels like these companies have tried to make hay while they could, and are going to try and spin their way out it now the public has cottoned on to what they are up to.

Fatcat has a point here. It's a poor state of affairs on here sometimes. Instead of discussing what issue a certain poster has some people just tend to attack the man based on either perceptions of them or something they have done in the past. Instead of insulting fatcat without any input, why not try discussing what he is saying if it's upset you. Explain why and what you disagree with. Debating isn't hard and I'm no stranger to insults and don't mind them in context but just attacking the man and not his points isn't on.

FatCat makes a lazy insinuation that this might be either a fabrication of the person who posted it or a one off, a simple bit of digging will find dozens of similar images from parents all over the country, some worse than the one used here. I've seen fruit and vegetable cut in to pieces, bags of a few pieces of dry pasta (a kilo bag of penne pasta costs about 60p and they are splitting them up!). Food split from its original packaging and placed (perhaps ironically) in money bags. Now THAT is taking the p!ss.

Thanks I wouldn’t mind but I believe I’m on the same page as everybody else in that I’m disgusted at the food provision for the school children. My questioning of the photo was more a scratching of the head with me thinking “that can’t be right” then thinking about it again and trying to come up with a logical reason like” ahh taht must be the dry goods, surely the meat and refrigerated goods is missing from the photo” I don’t know maybe I didn’t explain myself correctly but I think everybody is in agreement that the food provision is not adequate. Whether it’s the food provider, the gvt or a combination of the two they should be held to account.

Well, policies aside, the Home Secretary was literally found to be a bully, causing severe mental anguish to people who worked for her.

That was my point - you seem to be perfectly at ease with bullies in certain circumstances.

And before you deleted it, you told me 'bore off, nobody cares what you think'. What's that if not abuse/bullying (albeit v mild)?

Sorry to laugh Small Town. It's just I could have swore I've occasionally seen you posting your thoughts on the intelligence of other posters based on something they may or may not have voted for in 2016...

I'd love to be as optimistic as fatcat and cooper tbf. I see these pictures of the shocking food packages and think to myself "naturally as a private company seeking to maximise their profits this example is probably repeated many times around the country."

It must be very uplifting to have the sort of mindset that sees a picture like that and thinks "must be a one off, must be an error, must be lying. A company that have been fined before for dodgy school dinners and that got their contract by making donations to the tory party wouldn't be deliberately sending out sh*t packages like that."

To use a football analogy, you Roy Keane'd Alf-Inge Haaland before researching the subject.

Expect criticism when you do this repeatedly.

I also saw your initial post before your edit, poor form to then complain about bullying.

40% of children who attend hospital attend with signs of malnutrition, these food parcels that put profit before our children are a genuine problem. I don't care whether it's a few, some or all. I care that our government would use a national crisis to further starve children whilst making their friends richer.

That Cooper is criminal, your defense that it wasn't all food parcels, or that the image was miss representative is covering and excusing this behaviour.

I am a little ashamed of you to be honest.

You've misunderstood. I actually explained today in another thread you must have missed it. Its people sticking by the decision now, when all the bad things are becoming clear that are either acting stupid or ignorant.
I'm not averse to name calling or insults, emotive language happens on a message board. You gave to back it up though. What happened here to fatcat is more than one person attacked him for being a "tory voter" without contributing anything to the argument. Without trying to counter his points. I'm not against insults and I'm not averse to strong language but to do it just to shut down an argument, without actually addressing the points fatcat was making, just isn't right. It's all very easy to discount something thay has been said because of who is saying it. Its also wrong.

Say what you like but even just the plain fact that we have to do this to feed children in the first place is wrong especially when the parents are working.
I get where the parents are alcoholics or drug addicts but that’s when social services should step in but that’s the minority not as some would say the majority.
Again as pointed out this government has slashed their budgets to the bone so far too many are slipping through the net.
No one asks or chooses to be in a situation like this having to rely on charity or the taxpayer for food to feed a child that in any society is wrong plain wrong.
One of the worst things to happen to working people in this country since the torys got into government with thatcher even just to afford the basic things in life both parents need to go out to work & now it seems even that is not enough for some.
Anyone who goes out to work in this country should be able to at the very minimum put a dry roof over their heads & food on the table to feed their family but we now in some cases have people being payed so little they can’t afford this while the CEO of the shareholders get more & more.
Tory voters don’t seem to see that as a problem & are quite happy that it does as long as it doesn’t affect them.
I will never ever understand why anyone can put their own greed before the needs of a child & how anyone could even vote for those that do.

Whilst your comments and Trugg's are correct, the fix for that particular problem isn't on the immeadiate agenda and won't be until the Tories are no longer in government. That essentially means you have to deal with what is in front of you, and right now that means applying pressure to get kids fed, regardless of the underlying cause.

The exponential growth in foodbanks is shameful but until there is a viable alternative to tory austerity and criminalization of the poor we are where we are.

I thought this thread was highlighting a very specific point. This is about children from disadvantaged homes who due to their family circumstances would ordinarily get a free nutritious balanced meal in school. It’s not about questioning the children or their parents, not comparing them to our own children who are not entitled to free school meals. Plain and simple, the question asked is are our obligations to those children being met during enforced school closures and if not why not?. Each provider gets £3 per day per eligible child. In the previous lockdown in March the government passported that money directly to the parents. Some uncaring folk tried to demonise these families saying they would use it for booze, fags or drugs, they couldn’t but let’s isolate and denigrate them some more anyway. The parents could go and spend £15 on preparing 5 meals. Yes that had to meet the extra utility costs in preparing the meals but ultimately poor kids got fed. People in education will tell you for some kids the free school meal is the only substantial meal many of them will get that day. Most secondary schools give disadvantaged kids breakfast as many have not eaten the night before. This is the reality in Britain today. This time around the funding is going via the mostly private school catering providers and there are not just isolated incidents but numerous examples of ‘skimming’ unacceptable levels of profit of the top by these companies that is adversely effecting the most needy in the country. If it is happening in one household it is likely to be the companies policy in that area for others. This is unacceptable and I am amazed anyone other than a Tory MP or Councillor detached from the reality of life in Middlesborough would seek to defend or excuse this. It is a tax on the poor to improve dividends and profits for the rich, nothing more nothing less.

100% correct Laughing but we need to change peoples mindsets first as some seem to think this is an isolated incident or as they said its not everyone. as far as I'm concerned here even 1 is 1 too many but nothing is going to change while we have people who are willing to turn a blind eye, defend the people who cause this situation, say things like if they can't breed them they shouldn't breed them or simply dismiss it as oh its only a few it will never change.

This is a good article on the matter - seems Chartwells were at fault and have admitted to it. Hopefully they can sort it out soonest. Also seems the gvt are to provide an extra 3.50 per child per week - I don’t know if that was in the offing prior to this incident or not, the article doesnt say. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55641740

I have been following this thread with interest but nobody has asked the obvious question. Why aren't people getting enough wages or enough benefits so that they do not need food parcels? THAT is the bit I find shameful
It's the type of society we are. We repeatedly elect governments exacerbating the situation, any attempts to reverse the status quo receives the 'cant afford it' lie and a section of the electorate swallow it all too easily. Then they moan about what they've voted for.
