Nick Cave in Stockton

Wow! One of my favourite artists of all time.

Sheffield is the local one for me but seeing him at the Globe would be amazing. Might have to do two dates on that tour :)

Saw him in London a couple of years ago, much heavier and rawer than on recordings. I thought he was great live, except when he got some girl out the audience and started creepily singing to her

Can't see it being cheap - I'd reckon around £50 probably. We saw him on his "conversations with" tour in Nottingham a few years back and I think our tickets (the cheapest) were around £50.

Oh and 'dull as dishwater'?
Wash your mouth out young man! ;)
Sadly I'm not a young man anymore. I'm old enough to have seen The Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds in all their glory.

For me Nick hasn't released a good album in years. It all started going down hill when Mick Harvey left and Warren Ellis had more input.

Not enough people are willing to say something's dross just because it's Nick Cave. If he put out an album of himself reading the news some people would say it's a masterpiece.

Only my opinion of course. Some people say Ghosteens a classic, to me it's a load of self indulgent w**k.

I still love Nick Cave, just can't listen to his newer music. I'll go to The Globe to see him but after seeing him so many times (last time at The Sage in 2019) I don't think I would make the effort to go back to The Sage this time around.

I am a recent convert and have been going through his back catalog and agree that Ghosteen is his worst. The latest Carnage (with Warren Ellis) and Alone at Alexandra Palace are good albums.

He's dull as dishwater these days but some coup getting him on at the Globe. I might even be tempted to go.

29th September
Gene he really isn’t, beautifully crafted music and Warren Ellis is a genius. Hopefully be able to get tickets for Ipswich. Great to see an artist like him playing “proper venues”.

Ha - all down to opinions and there isn't a right or wrong.

Some of my best gig moments have involved Nick Cave, from being locked in a dingy small club in Leeds and not being let out because someone had nicked a drum pedal to sitting in a small Opera House in Tenerife watching him sit and sing whilst playing a piano solo that reverberated around the hall as Warren Ellis, Martin Casey & Jim Sclavunos looked on, almost in awe.

The early Bad Seeds albums are fantastic, Abattoir Blues/Lyre Of Orpheus is in my Top 10 without a doubt but Ghosteen is a load of self indulgent toss that if anyone else had put it out they'd have been rightly slaughtered.

In my opinion obviously :)

Also a fairly recent convert (last 10-12 years or so) - I dig pretty much everything he's ever done. Lyrically he's up there with the best and willing to challenge convention musically as well.

Grinderman probably his most interesting (and best?) period for me. Loved both albums and caught them at the Coronet in London which is probably the best gig I've ever seen.

Has anybody read his books? "and the ass saw the angel" is also a personal fave of mine.

Got tickets for Tom Robinson at Georgian the same night. May try to see Cave elsewhere. Seen him on his last two tours so if I don't he'll have to start without me.

More recent convert here too. Started with 'Push the Sky Away' which is fantastic. I haven't gone too far back in to his catalogue. 'Skeleton Tree' and 'Ghosteen' are difficult listens.
The 'Live at Alexandre Palace' record is great. I also enjoy the latest with Warren Ellis which this tour will no doubt promote. Saw him in Manchester with the Bad Seeds a few years ago and it was a great gig albeit with a strange atmosphere with it been the first gig back after the terrorist attack. I would go to the Globe show if I was back in the UK.

I've read it and I really enjoyed it. I got slaughtered on the old board and accused of being a troll when I dared to say that even though I love The Birthday Party and the early Bad Seeds albums he pretty much lost me around the time that he decided to go all elderly statesman balladeer. Musical taste is a very personal thing and his later stuff just doesn't really do anything for me.

I agree entirely, he's a genius, but he's lost his way and to me that is down to Warren Ellis' influence. Since Mick Harvey left Nick's output has steadily gone down hill.
