Mike Ashley in talks to seal Compensation deal with Boro

This is a win win for Boro.

We get some sort of settlement from money bags Mike Ashley and Derby get saddled with him for next few years.
That really would give them something to moan about!

If i see another Derby fan post on twitter about it not being fair as they are a founding member of the football league my head is going to explode 😡😡

If Derby stay up, have they really been punished by the EFL?

Breaching the rules should mean automatic relegation and being deducted 21 points would usually mean that. There is a good chance that Derby will start next season in the Championship on a sound footing and be able to compete for promotion - Is that fair on Wycombe?

They've only been deducted 9 points for breaching FFP rules.

12 points have been deducted for entering administration and that was entirely self inflicted.

No its not, agree with you Norman, but what is right & proper, if Derby were demoted the owner can just walk away causing all the damage & its the fans who have to pick up the pieces & will suffer badly from it

The rule has been put in place & has been carried out

Hopefully Ashley will fight Morris in the courts to reimburse him the money he paid to Boro & Wycombe

The owners already walked away and caused damage to the club and Ashley won't have a leg to stand on claiming money back from Morris.

Regarding the rules, I understand they are in place and have been implemented, I just don't see that justice has been carried out. Derby should have been relegated this season and got away with it to the expense of Wycombe.

On the playing side, you cannot fault what Derby is doing.

The penalties are paltry (nine points) for FFP breaches on a sustained and cynical scale.
The 12 additional points punishment for voluntary administration was taken in a calculated way.
Rooney has done a magnificent job, whether they stay up or not, and I have nothing against the team either, but if Derby stay up it merely reinforces that the punishment for persistent cheating has been woefully inadequate.
The punishment can't be changed after the offence for Derby (Adi's point in earlier threads), but there needs to be a reconstruction of the framework, process and penalties so that cheats like Morris are deterred or else destroyed. 9 points penalty for what they did is ridiculous.

Ashley mostly delivered premier league football at Newcastle and walked the championship whenever needed. I don’t see the problem. I wouldn’t want Derby to have that success.

Now I do agree with this, punishment doesn't fit the crime. They should not have started this season in the Champo.

That's were the problem lies, 9 points for cheating
Is it worth the gamble, Morris surely thought so
I'm not saying its right at all, but when the 9 point rule was brought in someone should have asked the question right at the beginning when the points rule was brought in that Norman has

Automatic relegation should be the punishment for deliberately breaking the financial rules, but the EFL are weak and have allowed clubs like Derby to string out the process over years.

The EFL need to grow a spine and ensure rule flouting is punished quickly.

Mike Ashley hatches Middlesbrough plan amid Derby County takeover interest

DerbyshireLive brings you the latest Derby County news as prospective buyer Mike Ashley reportedly plans important talks

Prospective Derby County buyer Mike Ashley is reportedly "planning talks" with Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson.

Boro are seeking compensation from Derby and it is proving a major hurdle to overcome if a takeover of the Rams is to be completed.

The Teesside club believe they were cost a shot at promotion to the Premier League as a result of Derby's Financial Fair Play breaches.

Ashley is said to have had a good working relationship with Gibson when he owned Newcastle United and The Sun claim that could help the two parties reach a deal.

The former Newcastle owner reportedly wants the issue to be resolved by the EFL without the need for legal action to be taken.

Ashley, who owns Sports Direct and House of Fraser, sold Newcastle for £305 million to a consortium led by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

He certainly has the money to spend as he eyes up Derby, though his tenure in the north east proves he may be unwilling to splash too much cash.

Meanwhile, manager Wayne Rooney has issued a plea for help as the club's off-the-field troubles rumble on.

Speaking after the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United, Rooney said: "I feared for today, if I am honest.

"Of course the result is excellent, but we need help. It needs sorting as soon as possible because whereas I stressed last week I felt we would stay in this division, if we are in this situation for much longer it will be extremely difficult for us to do it.

"Hopefully before the end of the window something can happen. If not, we could be in big trouble."

Apparently the reported 45mil claim is pie in the sky and a number generated by the press (or someone). It's not remotely what we are after.

So I imagine we'd take a settlement off Ashley just to make it go away. I would imagine 5-10 mil would be nearer the mark.

I'd be happier if it all goes away and just let Derby 'crack on' with just staying up and more so existing.

That said the daily Boro bashing on twitter by Derby fans is really winding me up. I hate them more than Leeds 😂
