£500,000 return flight to Oz by Liz Truss

Perhaps she just couldn't get through on the phone?

In 2007 she was advocating that ALL public servants should look at travelling as cheaply as possible and that people should travel economy or standard class where they were able to. Yet more Tory hypocrisy, do as I say not as I do. I hope she does get the top job because she's even more useless than the bone idle bum currently in post.

How is this news? Most other governments have private planes to ferry high ranking officials round.
Given her previous quotes, the parties alleged stance on climate change and the fact that the populace are facing rising prices left, right and centre then I'd say splurging half a million on a trip that could have been via first class on a commercial flight, if it was neede at all, makes it news worthy.
If we actually started to hold public officials to some account then maybe we wouldn't be ***ed on from a great height on such a regular basis?

who the fook signed off on that tax payer expense?
A return trip is say £5k in Business Class, plus c.£500 from Sydney to Adelaide, so, assuming talks have to be done in person, I suppose it depends on how big the delegation are & whether they were continuing to work on the flight over.

Just Liz on her own = outrageous
Liz & 99 civil servants = good value

Probably closer to the outrageous end of the spectrum though.

I don't think there's any scenario where Liz Truss in her role as a minister = good value.

I detest LT as much, or more than the next person, but they asked a private charter guy what he would charge and he said half a mill. Now given the plane is already on charter to the government and they probably also transported a squad of civil servants and journos too it’s not as it’s painted. However, if you were a minister with any sense or shame you just wouldn’t be seen to do it.

When Cameron came out to Lanzarote a few times (albeit holidays) he always flew Jet2, I’m sure he didn’t want to, but had the sense to.
