New Highway Code Changes Come Into Effect Saturday 29th January

Interesting study.
The Hi-vis jacket appeared to have an effect on crashes suffered by the test group, including single person ones, even when they weren't wearing it.

Would like to see it replicated to see if similar headline reduction is found.

You can always find a study to backup up or refute any point of view

Highlights

A bicycling visibility aids law had no influence on bicycle crash

A bicycling visibility aids law had no influence on proportion of bicycle crash

The law did not produce immediate effects, nor did it have any effects over time

People stood chatting at corners will cause chaos. Similar to how people stood gormlessly at zebra crossings cause confusion.

This is a good point. On a busy road you have to really slow down for people who are near a zebra crossing but end up not crossing

As I understand it the new 'sail over steam' rules will mean that cyclists will also have to give way to pedestrians waiting at junctions etc. I'll be interested to see how that plays out I central London

I for one won't suddenly just start stepping out hoping a driver knows the new rules. I imagine anyone with any common sense wouldn't either.

If nothings coming then I will cross. I simply can't believe you'd just step out hoping a driver knows (or follows) the new rules just because of a date 😂

That said I imagine some people will be well excited knowing they can catch a driver on a go pro and go into a 'don't you know the highway code change?' rant and 'this is going on Facebook'.

I'll give it a week before someone gets run over or a car runs up the back of you because you've 'given way' and the car behind just carries on not expecting you to stop.

It absolutely won't happen. Cyclists are the most self important, self centred people in the capital!

Case in point from my cycle in to work today: I confronted one of the 5 (FIVE) cyclists I saw jumping a red light at a pedestrian crossing and hi exact response was "I don't give a s**t mate".

Lovely

Pedestrians Get Priority at Junctions and Zebra Crossings

From now on if drivers are turning into a junction and a pedestrian is waiting to cross the road, it’s the vehicle that has to give way. Previously, this would only happen if a pedestrian was already crossing the road.

I think this one will cause confusion for both drivers and pedestrians, causing the ‘after you’ scenario and cars stopping suddenly, people not sure whether to cross or not, I think this one should have been left alone.

On average, how many people do you confront on a daily basis? It seems you are always pulling up someone about something or other.

There’s about 5-10 people every journey I see skipping red lights. As you’ve seen on here I feel quite strongly about it

You need to try to let things go a bit more. You’ll never change an idiot.

Can’t be good for your health!
I’m not one of these people who can stand there and just let people break the law. It’s not in my nature. I don’t turn a blind eye

You’re constantly indignant. Take more care of yourself. It’s not doing you any good. Your blood pressure must be through the roof.

It’s fine actually. I’m in decent health.
You might be happy that people break the law and do crappy things in front of you. I’m not.
