Sue Gray report going through legal checks

The New Statesman's response just now on The Gray Report findings

"In the longer term, the report is a disaster in two ways. Firstly, the demand that the details must be published in full will surely become a background hum for the rest of Johnson’s time in office. Whenever the opposition parties have a quiet week, or for some reason need to avoid questions on the matter of the day, they will always be able to return to the same old request: publish Gray’s findings in full. As Gray writes, she is currently unable to provide a “meaningful” report into the alleged gatherings: given that state of affairs will change, it is hard to see how the government can resist pressure to provide an update to Gray’s update at some point in the future.

Secondly: the Prime Minister is under investigation by the police. As, by extension, are members of his staff. The overwhelmingly likely scenario is that over the coming days, weeks and months, further details will leak out, both from the police investigation and the people under investigation.

Downing Street’s big hope has always been that it could use Sue Gray’s report to draw a line underneath the allegations of further parties. Instead, the report has primed a series of explosive devices underneath Boris Johnson’s administration – with no certainty that they can be defused or safely dealt with without bringing his premiership to an abrupt end."

Jimmy Saville and Brexit is his response to the criticism of his integrity. Ian Blackford telling it as it is, he has integrity.

Johnson is truly awful here.

Promising structural and back-office changes to the way Downing Street is run. Codes of conduct etc. Not resigning.

How depressingly predictable.
The actual problem wants to address the problem by fixing something that doesn't need fixing, he just ignored what was in place with his lack of morality, of respect for the position of PM and the British public and willingness to corrupt the British political statute to continue his grasp on power.

Absolutely shaking with rage watching Johnson’s performance this afternoon - this shifting of blame, the failure to answer questions, the diversionary tactics.

Any politician with an ounce of decency would resign on the basis of the report. Theresa May skewered him but the backbenchers seemed to lap up his performance.

Like many others I lost a parent during lockdown but followed the rules. For the last 2 years of her life my mum isolated, barely went out, didn’t see her grandchildren etc etc.

For the people who set the rules to blatantly ignore the rules and treat us like fools, is beneath contempt.
He’s lied multiple times and is only interested in saving his own skin. Surely those who voted Conservative can see this?

What an appalling man. I’m ashamed this is happening to my Country.

I am sure the rest of the posters on this board would like to echo my sentiment and offer you our deepest condolences on your loss.

Like you, I was also fizzing watching him and his front bench puppets smirk their way through this, the continued lies and the watching of intelligent people trying to defend him is beyond me. I somehow feel the intervention from the police has been manipulated by this government and they are happy to sit back while they plan a strategy to blunder their way through it or the unthinkable happens and Russia invades the Ukraine.

@naziral Crown Prosecutor NW England

Reference to Jimmy Savile by Boris Johnson was a disgrace to Parliament & office of Prime Minister

ITS NOT TRUE
I was there

Keir Starmer had nothing to do with the decisions taken
On the contrary, He supported me in bringing 100s of child sex abusers to justice

Starmer is too decent to remind Johnson who covered up for Saville- perhaps he should but then it would have deflected from the Sue Grey report and played into Johnsons hands- No, Starmer is too clever for that.

That comment about Jimmy Saville. It was way beyond anything remotely acceptable from any human being never mind a prime minister.

He got almost as low later when asked a question about 'is there also a drug culture in Downing St' when he responded that was a question to ask the Labour front bench.
