Connolly and Balogun

Balogun and Connolly are embarrassing me, strolling about in an FA Cup quarter final.

Just nowhere near enough effort, and even when they do get on the ball, there’s no quality. I thought that was the point of them.

Can’t help but feel the team has tailed off since they came in. Feels a bit like Warnock’s January signings, that ruined the team.

I don’t get it, what’s the point of them?

Chelsea have terrific players of course. But Connolly and Balogun are bad. Wouldn't want either of them back again next season.

We desperately need a striker or two (and a goalkeeper) that are capable of giving us a chance in the games where the team don't play so well. Instead the ones we've got ones that can always cost us a game even if the performance is decent - e.g. Bristol, QPR...

I don't know about Connelly at Brighton, but he's being asked to put in a shift and compete playing for us, it may well be that he's still adapting to the role. He's not that big so he'll come off a lot worse in the challenge than someone like Coburn.
Balogan is still raw in terms of league experience, but there is definitely something about him that I think is worth persevering with.
Tonight they were up against a side that snuffs out the threat of far better players so it's hard to be that critical.

There’s nothing in either of them. Neither have a 1st touch, the ball bounces off them meaning the inevitability lose it and put pressure back on us. Neither is fit to lace Uche’s boots. These two are seriously poor. Alex Nimley, Caleb Folan, Lukas Nmecha bad.

Chelsea have world class defenders
, purchased on the back of much nefarious double dealing in Russia no doubt but they are top draw. They played a full strength team tonight.

Connolly and Balogan struggle as a pair in the championship I’m not slagging them off but so far it hasn’t worked. I honestly think Uche would have posed more issues for Chelsea today if he had played.

The manager sees something in them that I don’t but then again he knows loads more about football than me.

Watched it live over here in the USA , commentator said he didn’t think that they did that much tonight

I think I agree with this assessment. What I would add is that Connolly had barely kicked a ball all year before joining us and balogun has been playing in the no contact league. They may well turn out to be bad signings, they are not bad players.

They were brilliant the other night. Some people need a bit of perspective. We played the best team in the world on paper.

In fairness to Connolly I thought he held the ball up well at times and was clever in the sense of backing into players to draw fouls.
He was better holding the ball up tonight but I just have no faith he will score on regular basis.
My comment was about Balogun.

Connolly doesn’t create and doesn’t score. Not really what you want from a striker! I have a feeling that Wilder has been told Connolly will be available to buy in the summer and he really wants to give him a chance but I hope we improve on him next season - whatever division we’re in.

Whilst I don't think either of them are pulling up trees, I did think that Connolly showed what a good first touch he has, there were a few times where he made the ball stick that I thought were brilliant. I do agree that neither of them looked like scoring but that was more to do with Silva being able to play as if he was wearing his slippers and smoking a pipe as he is some defender.

If you think Connolly walked around doing nothing today you watched a different game to me.. he chase everything down, even list causes and was frustrated to hurt him self and have to come off…

They’re both good players but a poor pairing..,

Flo was pretty quiet today but he’s still a good player..

I don’t think Sporar is the answer or even Coburn although he’s the best we have…

They were playing against world class players, and feeding on scraps. They put effort in, Connolly seemed to take a blow to the ribs which effected him, but in general they both put effort in. If they do it against Peterborough they'll be more successful.

exactly. The only time he stopped chasing was for 10 mins vefore he came off, because he looked like he took a heavy blow to the ribs which was bothering him. He did hold the ball up at times, and won free kicks when the Chelsea defenders pulled and pushed at him.

Balogun struggled to get into the game, but put the effort in. But he's a kid, raw, and will do better in championship games

Sporar, has been poor for me, a couple of highlight goals, but in general he's anonymous with and without the ball. Not strong enough, quick enough, or skillful enough

Coburn, looks excellent, but he's not going to be able to execute the game that Wilder wants for more than 15-20 mins until he gets his fitness levels up to where Wilder wants it. Coburn needs to spend the summer doing fitness work and then he can start more. I think Connolly and Coburn could work for half a game right now with Connolly putting the effort in for coburn.

Thought he had a poor game compared to normal, but the opposition were much, much better, so it's maybe understandable.
