* The "Welcome Back" to the new season. Boro v WBA. Match-day Thread *

Good first half. Second half needed midfield changes, we just don’t have any options. Think it’s the right result, need bodies through the door this week.
Yep lack of options was the issue 2nd half. We couldn't really change much. Would Tav have made a difference, who know probably not. A reasonable point but bluddy Watmore!
Giles looks great

That was absolutely *****. That’s not a promotion winning side. Strikers needed desperately.
It's the midfield for me mgree fair play to him always looks for the ball but defensively without the ball he leaves us wide open. He doesn't have the combativeness needed to dominate games in the championship. We looked wide open on the counter

Midfield was non existent second half. Crooks, Howson, McGree is no where near mobile enough for a team wanting promotion.
You seen the wba midfield? Swift / livermore and Wallace. They'd walk into any champo midfield.

Swift is on 35k a week (apparently) so never an option.

They have a far better squad than us.

I think it shows that our back up CM was Hackney says it all. Then again losing Tav 3 days before is nobody's fault.

Decent point. I don't think you'll see many better sides than WBA.

I would agree there squad depth is probably the best in the division

Think Jones needs to stop with the attempted nutmeg cross from deep. Much better when he gets pass his man and flashes a low ball across the front. When it doesn’t work it looks so poor and always ends up with a counter attack.

Giles on the other hand. Delivery outstanding. He is gonna be a massive player for us.

I just think that midfield 3 are going to struggle against any decent side with a bit of pace. Hopefully we have a replacement for Tav lined up as far too ponderous second half.

A little disappointing in the end to be honest.
WBA will be the happier of the two sides.
But a point each was about right given the performance.
Still feeling optimistic for the season.
It's going to be a long hard slog with highs and lows.
I am really looking forward to it.
I have come to love championship football for that very reason.

At least Paddy will be available next game. Maybe to play in midfield until the replacement for Tav is found.

some Great moves and flashing balls across the box, especially Giles. Best move should’ve won us the game but mcGree shanked it out of play at the decisive moment.

+ keeper looks good
+ Howson still reads the game beautifully
+ Akpom could prove a useful squad member
+ Giles is a real find
+ Jones looks like he fancies it and will terrorise defences
+ Coburn looks physically stronger
+ Dijksteel looks in great shape
+ Forss could well be a real prospect

- We looked leggy compared to them, especially in midfield, even though they did all the chasing first half
- Crooks and McGree don’t seem up to speed
- Lenihan should lesd Things from the back, but let the more technically capable CBS hit those slide rule passes. He did get bullied by Dike, but got away with a couple
- The ref allowed them to leave a few on us, 1st half, then hauled us up for similar in the second

pall in all a decent opening point
