The Hundred

It’s seems much less irritating this time around.

Graphics are still utterly gratuitous nonsense but otherwise I don’t mind it now.

Maybe I’ve just got used to it.

I’m pretty impressed with the graphics, particularly in the second innings when they change it to balls left. They’ve managed to make a very simple concept incredibly confusing

Not a fan. Its being played at the same time at the Royal London Cup the 50 Over cup competition. Much prefer the 50 over format. Sadly most players have committed to the 100 so devalues the 50 over Cup. Cant be helpful to producing 50 over world cup stars of the future.

I am off to a RL Cup match tomorrow. Middlese v Surrey at Radlett.

It's killed the 50 over game and my hope of seeing yorkshire in a lords final.
I like wood as a bowler but he's awful in the commentary box.
The commentators seem lightweight to me

Thought I would give BBC 2 coverage ago instead of Sky, its just as bad commentator wise .The use of "Skip" does my head in, its captain.
Getting players to wear a microphone and talk as he is playing is also an irritation and distraction .The woman commentators are also poor .I compare it to the T20 coverage which for me is also far better.

Bit of a traditionalist, much prefer test cricket out of all of the forms, but it's just......meh. An even more glitzy variation of T20 - did cricket need this?
Seems to have taken off so obviously people enjoy it, but it's a meh from me.

If you think the 100 is odd wait till you see the 60 oh sorry I mean The 6ixty.

The 6ixty: 60-ball tournament with new rules to launch in Caribbean
https://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/61899721

A new 60-ball cricket format, which includes the chance for fans to vote for a batter to have a 'free hit' where they can't be dismissed, will launch in the Caribbean in August.

The tournament will introduce new rules with the aim of making the game faster, including:

Each batting team has six wickets - at the fall of the sixth wicket they are all out.

Each batting team has two powerplay overs. They can unlock a third powerplay by hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls. This extra powerplay over can be taken at any time between overs 3-9.

There will be 30 balls bowled from one end before the action switches to the other end for the final 30 balls.

The 30 balls will be delivered as five separate overs, with no bowler being able to bowl more than two overs for the innings.

If teams do not bowl their overs within the allotted time a member of their team is removed from the field for the final six balls.

Fans will vote for the timing of a 'mystery free hit' where a batter can't be dismissed by the bowler

It passed a couple of hours entertainIngly, but I think you have to be partisan to really get involved and I mean that for instance the Yorkshire county players should play for the side based in Yorkshire.
I suppose you could give your allegiance to one of the top sides , rather like people used to do with Man U.

The hundred is designed to appeal to a different demographic namely the young and women that otherwise that might not follow cricket as a gateway to other formats.

But do they really ??

Is the hundred the gateway to test cricket or a replacement got it.

It’s interesting that key members of the England test squad have forgone their 100 this summer to concentrate on England in the test namely stokes and bairstow but even yesterday despite losing wickets Trent rockets never put joe root into bat.

Although I don’t like it (the format) I was there last night and it was brilliant. Took the kids (free) and it was all based around them. The constant inground entertainment reminded me of being at an NBA match. The production is slick and the action was good. Only problem was the extortionate cost of caps etc that I got rinsed with. Great night out for the family

Booked tickets for Sunday at Headingley ages ago, before I knew the Sheff United game would clash.

My son is keener to go to the cricket than the Boro, so that’s where we are going.

It’s a good cheap day out.
