* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Barnsley Carabao Cup Match Thread *

It's not Wilder it's above him - Gibbo just won't pay out the £££ - we've taken in huge sums this window yet spent f*ck all.

The problem is not the manager - we've changed enough of them now. The problem is the very top, Gibbo hasn't got the interest he used to have and the club is totally stagnant.

People will tell you it could be worse without Gibson , but I argue it could be better without too. People keep mentioning 86 and the euro run, but these last 15 years aside from one season have been utter dog **** under his tenure

Aside from the karanka promotion season we’ve historically underachieved relative to our history these like 15 years under Gibson . All this structure lies on him

When Gibson eventually goes , he needs to take bausor with him

I respect your opinion but I'm sure Gibson is as ambitious as ever. The fact he ruthlessly got rid of Warnock to bring in Wilder before others could move for him shows that. I have no doubt we are working hard to get targets over the line, but nearly every manager is bemoaning how hard it is to get transfers through these days. I'm sure we have a big pot of cash that we are desperately trying to spend on the right players.
The proof is in the pudding, how many more seasons of absolute crap do we have to endure?

We have gone out in the first round of the league cup with arguably better squads in the last, and ended this game with how many players making their professional debuts?

Seasons are not defined by the first round of the league cup.

Win on Sunday and all will be forgotten.

We’ve failed to record a win in our first two opening games and just beaten in the cup in a game we should realistically be winning

Morale in the dressing room is a big thing .

I think we've tried to be 'clever' with transfers after the nightmare under Monk/Pulis.
(I admire this)
But unfortunately we are now in the time of 'silly money' with other Clubs.
It feels we are getting outbid left right and centre.
Choudhury to Watford as an example.
Maybe Gyorkores to Everton (who are spending money like confetti).

Unsure whether we have the intelligence to find the real 'bargains' out there .....but hope springs eternal.

Steve Gibson would probably love to find someone who would take MFC off his hands. If you know anyone, or you want to do it, he'd reward you handsomely.

I’m sure there would be if I actually put the club up for sale . Has he actually done it?

There are clubs smaller than us that have successfully changed ownership.

Like any business we need to find our 'edge' over the competition.
At least we have tried to change things with the FD thing etc.
At the moment we are getting murdered in the new economic environment.
To be fair - for years we were 'batting above' our position regarding transfers......but it seems that there are more billionaires out there than ever!

As I mentioned earlier we need a new talisman/local hero to step up.
Last year it was Jones.
We desperately need someone who is effective.....ideally with a bit of personality to step up and show themselves

Just got in. Either these players aren’t buying into Wilders methods, aren’t capable of playing it, or his methods are just ****.

I can’t work out which one.

There’s little or no quality in the team, and maybe club ownership has lost sight of this due to our so called lofty 7th placed finish last season.

Our midfield is just stuck together with masking tape as we saw week at QPR. I’m worried that this season will be a season of negativity because of the lack of foresight by the clubs’ ownership.

Ok I’m not bothered by the EFL cup but to put team out that surely wouldn’t make reserve match at most championship clubs tells you all you want to know where we’re at— at a very low ebb. So why aren’t we able to attract decent players? Anyone care to ask that question?

That’s the key problem right now — we have to go looking for low lying fruit probably bad apples (like Zack Steffan) maybe. Three games in and no wins doesn’t send the right message to anyone looking to join us. Early days I know but the club executives have been caught napping at the wheel imo.

Noticed that Hoppe was referred to by Wilder as 'one for the future' who will have to work his way up into the group.

I guess he's something of a... project?

Can't think of anything much good to type about that.
We obviously lack strength in depth.
But perhaps keeping players fresh for Sunday will pay off.
Lots of noise needed at the Riverside next game.
Let the lads know the season has on fact started.

Wilder on Hoppe: "He wanted the No 9 shirt. He ain't getting it but I like that attitude. He ain't getting it because we are bringing a No 9 in. And a No 10. And a No 4 and 5 and 11. Those were left open for a reason."

Someone better tell the recruitment team that then 😵‍💫

It’s early season, we are a bit undercooked and the outgoings and incomings have not been balanced yet but it will take 6 to 10 games in before we get a clearer picture of where we are heading. My only concern is up to now there doesn’t seem to be any team spirit and togetherness on the field? You like to see a team playing as a unit with passion and purpose - even if they are learning about each other but some of the senior players in particular just don’t look happy at the minute and it’s also a bit dour and flat on the pitch

Is he a talented player Laughing? Did he always stand out?
He was known as Mini Joe cos he was so small .He was often on the receiving end of some very hard tackles but he always bounced back up.Yes he did stand out and was very talented even at such a young age .Really please that he is doing so well
