Military told not allowed to use blue lights on ambulance cover

So they are not ambulances then surely.

Health minister -

He added that they would not be able to drive ambulances under blue lights, go through red lights or break the speed limit - but would help ambulance staff to get people to A&E more quickly.
To be fair the law doesn't allow it, so it's an easy decision to make.

I Heard a noise as i was going to bed last week (12:30am). i looked out of the window and saw my 90 year old neighbour with dementia lying on the pavement outside my house in her pyjamas and with no shoes on. It was -2 at the time and the street was freezing. i went down and her son had arrived and she was saying she couldn't move and she was cold. we rang 999 because there was blood on the floor. they quoted a 5.5 hour response time.

We ended up moving her and hoping she hadn't broken anything because she would have died if we had left her outside for that long.

something needs to change.

(We got her inside carried on a chair, got her warmed up and the ambulance arrived about 20 minutes after we had got inside. She's OK now.)
Glad she is OK
Heartbreaking situation.
Is it really 2022?

The army are not allowed to sound a siren, or flash blue lights?
But they are allowed to shoot people and fire missiles.
Which is a bit of a worry.
😯
I think we should let them have the blue lights.

There’s more to driving emergency vehicles than whacking blue lights on. Drivers have to train intensively to be able to drive ‘response’ vehicles.
It’s harder than it looks believe me. My course lasted three weeks, you were taught to read the road, I honestly thought I was a good driver until embarking on the course.
It just isn’t safe to allow people to ‘blue light’

Blimey, well done for noticing and reacting!

Imagine the enquiry if a squaddie with no high speed training ran a red light, blues and twos or not, and hurt someone. He’d be crucified and that press would be creaming themselves. I agree it’s shïte but it’s the mess we’re in.

Two good posts these.
It must be an incredibly skilled job to drive an ambulance in an emergency.
If we paid the NHS what they were worth we would all be bankrupt.
But I don't think that's what they are wanting to strike for.
When paramedics trained they didnt expect it would make them rich.
But I don't think they expected to need to strike to get a decent level of pay either.
I understand this means yet higher taxes for me personally that I just can't afford.
But I never believed Boris when he said brexit would pay for it all.
Sadly tax increases need to happen and I just have to find a way to manage somehow.
Like everyone.
Otherwise what was the government doing when they encouraged us to stand on our doorsteps and applaud?

I remember back to my early RN days when we were seconded from ships to cover the Fireman’s strike. Because we had fairly intensive firefighting training we were sent to crew the old green goddess fire tenders. I remember having a great time especially with the local ladies, who thought we were the bees knees, but funnily enough I can’t remember for the life of me, if we were allowed to use the blue lights or not. They couldn’t go that fast anyway!!

Tax increases for the richest would seem to be an obvious solution. Or even just getting them to pay their F***ing taxes in the first place.

I think times were different then to be honest, regardless of that the law allowed, so I wouldn't be surprised if you did.
