FA Cup Replays are back....

Didn't know 3rd/4th round replays were back. I can't say it's amazing news. Only binned over the last 2 seasons due to covid. I thought they were gone for good.

I guess it's a decent money spinner for lower league clubs. A royal pain in the a*s for all other managers. I can't see us wanting to travel to Brighton midweek.

Unless you live in the vicinity of Brighton of course.
I live near Portsmouth

Although work away in the week so I'd still miss it. That said its a bit of a pain from what I remember as no parking anywhere near the ground as its a 'green or echo' zone.

You have to drive past the ground at park up 4-5 miles away at the race course and get bus back.

I much prefer the jeopardy of a result on the night. The underdogs chances are often dramatically reduced in the replay once the favourite becomes more familiar with their tactics.

Look at our game against Man Utd last season, distinct possibility we lose that replay! Or the flip side, Boro v Chesterfield 96/97. Without a replay they might have turned us over in the pennas ( I wouldnt have fancied Ben Roberts to save many)

Seems to be about as much excitement for the Brighton game as there was for the Hibs friendly.

I know that Brighton was a really dull draw, neither nowt nor summat, but I still don't think it's a good sign for the health of the FA cup.

Brighton are a top ten Premier League Club and we view a home draw as "something and nothing". Pretty sad. It would certainly have been a great draw 30 years ago. Sign of where we think we are in the pecking order these days.

Not just me then (see has the cup lost its appeal thread)

Not completely disinterested but if the option of watching it on a stream is there for free in my own home (which seems quite high given the number of foreign channels its on) then thats the route for me for this 3rd round clash

Dont get me wrong i went to the Peterborough and Newport games a few seasons ago so im not sure why i cant rev myself up for this tie

Yes they are but a fair price I think to pay for a good cup tournament in keeping with its traditions (and yes I know it is nowhere near the same for the bigger clubs). The fans of smaller clubs still love it as it is the only chance they get to achieve their dream games.

I don't think it adds anything that a penalty shootout on the night wouldn’t.

Most replays just end with the bigger clubs ultimately winning anyway, and it inconveniences both clubs.

Drawing a big club away would still be a common outcome through luck of the draw.

Given the "outrage" around PP on the Sunderland away tickets thread, I would have thought this would be a sellout - easy and cheap game to rack up 3 easy priority points!

I think its more about how we view Brighton. A team that are likely to beat us but aren't a big enough name to cause any excitement.
Also, its the third round. Be a different story if it was the 5th or 6th.

I'm 50/50
I can see why fans can complain, I mean travel is an absolute nightmare and with them always being mid week it's pretty difficult.
However, for lower league clubs, it's fine reward for potentially a good result in a first leg at home. If you're playing Championship/PL opposition you're buzzing If you can somehow hold on to a draw at home or away against a big boy. Not only do you get a money spinner at home or away, it's a great opportunity for the players and staff at the club to play against the best. Chances like that don't come around to often. It's magic

Boro were a lower league club for 20 years, I started watching half way through, and looking back the big games of that era were the cup games against top flight sides. Man City, Man Utd, replays and giant killing at Ayresome Park in front of full houses.
