    Lewis O'Brien wants to stay

He’s be my first signing of the summer. He’s clearly fitting in with the way we play and has quality. Still feel like there’s a few more gears to come from him too.

    FFP Headroom

I can’t answer the question, but I do know that FFP headroom only matters if you feel the owner should be putting in money to allow the maximum allowable losses.

    Next seasons realistic aim

If we keep our best players and add 2-3 quality signings, I’d have to say automatics should be the aim.

    "These things even themselves out"

Got to say I disagree with the OP, they do tend to even themselves out. And for that reason, I think it was better without VAR.

    The Dijksteel situation

He’s still reasonably young, there’s no reason he couldn’t get his head down and become a consistent championship player. I think he has a lot to offer and he’s struggled to get into his stride enough. It feels like a move could be mutually beneficial but I’d had no issue with him staying

The core squad to build around next season

I think most of the existing squad is good enough to play a part next season, just maybe not a core part of it. Certainly the three you’ve mentioned, plus glover, Tommy smith, Barlaser and Silvera.

    Finn Azaz

I loved Matt crooks, but I do think Azaz is an upgrade.

    Dyksteel

    He’s not out of contract

The core squad to build around next season

Dieng Van Den Berg Clarke Fry Lenihan Hackney Howson Mcgree Azaz Latte Lathe Jones Forss And a few others who could develop and stake their claim. These, plus a few more quality additions and a lot more luck with injuries and we’re on to something good.

    Corners

I’d say it’s been the one big area for improvement under Carrick that hasn’t been exploited. I think it’s fairly obvious we’ve not cracked it when you see that corners takers over the season have swapped so much. Greenwood, Howson, Hackney, Azaz, Barlaser, O’Brien, McNair, Mcgree all given it a...

    Forget about Hackney, RVB, McGree

I’ve resisted the urge to make a separate thread for this, but Latte Lathe has now equalled Assombalonga’s best ever scoring season for us!

    Steve Gibson's fmttm Q and A - Thursday

Although I can’t attend, I’m glad it’s going ahead. In a perfect world it would be recorded and distributed, but it’s not a perfect world and doing it this way gives it the best chance of being meaningful to the people who are there. If it was recorded no doubt the conversations would have to...

Jones - new 3 year contract

Brilliant news. I don’t buy any of the previous posts about Mcgree leaving

What does Middlesbrough need to do to become a city?

It’s a massive shame that this opportunity always seems to bring up more division between people arguing about made up boundary lines that don’t really matter. Anyone who has visited the area can tell immediately it has the feel of a large urban area and most would assume it’s already a city...

Appearances totals of key players in 23-24, why we missed out.

I’d argue there is a quality difference in the players you’ve mentioned. Plus, it’s horses for courses - you get a totally different game playing jones to Forss or Mcgree to Rogers. This sort of ignores the added value you get from being able to field the same and very similar elevens through...
