    Worst Tory twitter post yet?

I’m pretty sure that using an image of the King in a party political post would have been ‘noted’ by the palace.

YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

I realise you shouldn't really do this, but it's just a bit of fun: If you compare the two recent MRP polls, Survation has the Tories winning 98 seats at the next election whilst YouGov has them winning 155. However, analysing the individual seat predictions, Survation actually has the Tories...

Let's see if we can count to a million

Are you saying that we’ve had both binary and non-binary?

A summer of short form cricket

I’d want compensating for having to watch Lancs! (Apologies, but I am a Yorkshireman after all).

Jeremy Hunt commits Tories to Triple Lock

Except that the government periodically reviews the age at which people are entitled to receive state pension and one of the criteria is that total expenditure should stay below 6% of GDP. Therefore, every time the current state pension increases by more than the rate of economic growth (which...

£100k a year doesn’t go far you know

Some of the hardest working people I know are single parents holding down two jobs just to make ends meet. They then spend their 'leisure' time feeding and caring for their kids, and will often forgo even simple pleasures, just to try and give their kids the best quality of life they can. As...

Rod Liddle on Middlesbrough Question Time

Presumably to try and split the anti-Tory vote.

    Andy McDonald - MP

Im beginning to think he might not have been a very good banker either, as he appears to have little grasp of the concepts of statistical error or mass data. Of course any individual data point will have a relatively large margin of error. It’s the reason why polling companies don’t just stop...

    Andy McDonald - MP

Hmmm. So their Environment Editor is a guy who previously worked in banking and ran a publishing business. Yep, I think I’ll take his view on the world rather than listening to all those unqualified Oxford dons and Harvard professors.

General Election - Second half of 2024

That’s the story that the media (and some politicians) would have you believe. Like a great many things, it doesn’t match up with reality though. https://www.britishelectionstudy.com/bes-impact/the-myth-of-the-2017-youthquake-election/

£40 a year for garden waste collections

It's cheaper for the developer, not necessarily the householder. Technically, the developer should reduce the sales price of the houses which come under a management company agreement, as there is an ongoing annual service charge which should be reflected in the price. Plenty of them don't though.

£40 a year for garden waste collections

See page 3 of link below for an explanation of adoption of open space. SBC requires a commuted sum equivalent to 25 years' worth of maintenance costs. This is why some developers chose to go down the management company route...

General Election - Second half of 2024

Plus, when we last went to the polls in 2019, the law at the time said that the next general election had to take place by 2nd May 2024 at the latest. When the Tories repealed the fixed term parliaments act, they conveniently ignored that and gave themselves potentially 9 months longer in office.

£40 a year for garden waste collections

Councils don’t just adopt areas out of the goodness of their hearts. The developer has to pay a (significant) sum of money to the council before they will agree to adopt it. Obviously, that comes out of their profits (although technically should have been included in the house price). If you...
