Mendez Laing

Don't think he looked fat at all.

He's just got an unusual body shape.

He hadn't played league football since last July, bound to be rusty.
That made me smile TC, I know the camera adds 10 pounds, but he did look fat. I did look for some pictures to see if I was wrong but couldn't find any of him.

TLJ did you cheer Merson on when he was here ??

Of course I did, and I'm not suggesting that we don't for NML, as I've said above he can improve the team.

I'm merely pointing out that he isn't an innocent little kid who is blameless in this, and has made a one off mistake (he was caught TWICE in a year, suggesting he's not exactly remorseful).

It's the willingness to overlook what he's done because he's supposedly a decent footballer that I'm laughing at. Imagine if Newcastle, or Burnley, had signed him - this board would be in uproar about a lack of morals in football etc.

He really looked sluggish compared with his YouTube highlights, which suggest he can be a tricky player

Looks like another in the long list of overweight unfit players we seem to attract.

He looks at least 2 stone overweight and could give that big bloke at Wycombe a run for his money when it comes to getting a fry-up

Might just be able to replace BA and CA but that wouldn't be asking much.
I'm sorry but you're talking rubbish here. NML isn't overweight at all. He's big and always been like that. Go and Google him especially at Cardiff it's still the same. I don't know why you feel the need to pick on his size etc. Give the lad a break.

Maybe we can use his physique to our advantage , as the target man striker .
Strong , holds the ball up , knows how to score .
I don't mean put balls in the air ,I mean play it into his body , use his strength , and have Kebano , Watmore , Or whoever , feeding off him .
He won't get bullied , so use it .

I've posted two on the previous page.

He looks no different to how he did at Cardiff.
You're right TC he looks no different. Didn't see the pictures on page 1. He still looks fat, but you may well be correct, Mido always looked fat, and essentially was.

For many individuals in treatment for cocaine dependence, weight gain is a substantial problem during recovery. This weight gain causes significant distress and seems to increase the risk of relapse. The mechanisms underlying cocaine's effects on weight remain elusive. It is widely assumed that this weight gain reflects a metabolic or behavioural compensatory response to the cessation of cocaine use. Here we challenge this assumption and outline potential mechanisms by which chronic cocaine use produces disturbances in the regulation of fat intake and storage, through its effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems, specifically the sympathetic nervous system. We hypothesize that the cocaine-induced alteration in fat regulation results in cocaine users developing a pronounced appetite for fatty food but keeps their fat mass low. This altered fat appetite subsequently leads to excessive weight gain when individuals enter treatment and stop using cocaine. Our aim is to shed light on the neurobiological mechanisms that may underlie the alterations in eating and fat regulation in cocaine-dependent individuals, to open up potential new avenues to support these individuals in recovery.

Do fatty foods cause excessive weight gain? I thought it was excess of calories and un-used carbs stored as fat. He might have just hit the weights in dubai in an attempt to keep himself fit.

I think he will be a nuisance up the pitch.. hopefully he can get a but of pace back into his game. Not much recovery time between matches for that.

Gonna have to start putting the lads in a freezer universal solider style after matches!!!

I think you're overestimating the outrage over someone taking drugs.

Not really, it's not so much the act of taking coke (which is obviously illegal) it's more the fact that it demonstrates that he's highly unprofessional and doesn't learn a lesson / grasp a second chance, and so I wonder why people think he's suddenly going to become the new George Friend all of a sudden.

As I say, if it were Newcastle, Burnley or Derby this board would be laughing their heads off.

thought he played ok actually considering hes nowhere near fully fit,if you go on the cardiff forum and ask them about him,all you will hear is praise,as you see ,they have watched him over a period of time,as thats how it works you see,but of course with the experience the people on this board have ,they can work out that he wont be good enough for us after his first 20 mins, bless em

For three and a half years I have seen and heard utter idiots defend a fat, lazy useless waste of space called "Britt" waddle around the pitch in a half arsed way.

Mendez Laing has played a quarter of a match after the first team play appalingly.
Thanks for posting the video montage as it gives me hope that the lad can get fitter quickly and if he plays anything like on the video he will do more than Assombolonga could ever do - or ever has.

Give this lad a break, he at least deserves one.
This post was about Mendez-Laing, so why use it as another excuse to have a go at Assombalonga?

Why does he deserve a break. I'm not getting at him I'm just wondering what he has done that makes him deserving of said break.

EDIT: Sorry if I had read further than indeedido's post I would have seen that others asked same question. Sorry for repeating.

Why? A player who helped his club to a promotion. Signed by the manager who got those performances from him. On a free. If derby signed him I'm sure most would be saying he's a decent signing. He's not ravel Morrison.
