Just cancelled Sky tv

This is what im doing - got netflix, prime video and a years free trial on apple tv. for the Boro games I'll just pay to watch the odd match via the website, that way the money goes to the club (I think?) and not Sky

apparently I can keep the sky box and use it for free sat
I've got 2 boxes, they really don't want them back, works fine on the spare TV in the Conservatory.

I love Sky. I've got everything, including 2 of the 2TB boxes, internet etc, for £80 a month. The amount I watch, use the internet, use Multiscreen etc, happy to pay that.

If the price was set rather than so many variants for the same package they may get more people on board.

There’s a very good reason why Sky don’t want the boxes back - you own them already! In fact, in many cases they sold them to you when you took out the contract (although you can usually negotiate the first box for free).

Sky do this for sound business reasons. If/when something goes wrong with the box, that’s your problem and you have to pay for it to be fixed or buy a new one. If Sky owned the boxes and there was a fault, they would be obliged to provide a free replacement.

Whenever my Sky contract comes to an end (and they whack it up to £80+), I just cancel and then they either end up offering me a good discount within the 30 days cancellation period, or if they don't, I sign up using one of the 'new customer' offers under my Mrs name (and vice versa)

Done this for a good few years now.
Same last time we ended up getting about a thirty per cent reduction plus Netflix and faster broaddband. Pays to complain - they only treat new customers well, once you are an existing customer they will treat you like crap if they can. Get away with it.

The Sky Q boxes are different they still belong to Sky

Charging for HD is a joke
netflix different charges for SD, hd and UHD. Interestingly netflix have bbc and ITV programmes in UHD which you cant get at UHD levels on iplayer or itvhub. Its also disappointing to see the small number of hd channels on freeview

The last time I cancelled mine I asked them to keep the price under £50 and I would be happy - couldn't do it was the reply. I then got inundated with spam emails, letters, telephone calls, etc form them asking me to come back for £39.

Just keep a reasonable price and people will stay with them. Sky is a lot better than Virgin, but you have to move from one to another every now again.

I normally pre emt my Sky subscription.
I've paid £60 pm for about 3 years wi3yh all channels except bt sports.Quite happy with that. About 2 month before the end of the contract i usually ring them saying ive noticed on the app my bil is going up to x amount in a few months.
Knowing full well they will say they cant do anything until its within a month of contract end.. to which i say i wont be paying that amount.
They always ring back saying £20 less, then a bit more, always say no until you give 30 days notice.
You can guarantee that within a day you get a message on the tv offering the same price as the last year. In fact i got an extra box for upstairs last time.
Come June I'll start the process ahain.

It’s silly that you have to go through all that though. They should all be made to offer a limited number of fixed price packages to everyone.

I haven't had a telly for a couple of years now. I really dont miss it at all. I don't even watch programmes when I'm on a 'plane, although I do sometimes find myself glancing at someone else's film across the aisle. Maybe it's not so bad without the sound.

Im with Virgin and I am seriously thinking about getting shot of the sports elements of the package.

Edit: I have done so this morning 👍
