First time since the Constituency was formed almost 50 years ago that the Conservatives have taken the seat.

Labour currently offer very little to voters.

The only people who will now vote for them are dyed in the wool Labour voters that have always voted Labour and always will.

The type of person that looks at all the options and makes an informed decision aren’t going to opt to vote for the Labour. Party. Labour offer no opposition to the current government and don’t appeal to the modern voter.

Sums it up:

Outside the town’s Mill House Leisure Centre where the count was taking place, a local group calling themselves the Hartlepool Wombles installed a massive inflatable of Boris Johnson. It stood there, taller than the pub it was anchored to, its thumbs up.

Which "type of person" votes Conservative?
What are their defining characteristics?
Which "type of person" are you?
Do those "type of person" have opinions or ability rationale` to change their opinions?

Candidate Jill Mortimer was declared the winner on Friday morning with a majority of 6,940 votes.

She successfully overcame a 3,595 majority held by former Labour MP Mike Hill after his sudden resignation triggered the by-election.
Counting of votes went on until around 6.45am with the winner eventually declared shortly after 7am.

Mrs Mortimer, a farmer and district councillor from North Yorkshire, is the first Hartlepool MP since naval hero Commander John Kerans stood down ahead of the 1964 General Election..

She campaigned on having a plan for jobs through the new freeport, apprenticeships, regenerating the town centre and cutting crime with more police on the beat.

Her election bid was boosted by three visits to Hartlepool by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and a number of other senior ministers.

It’s simple isn’t it?

Money for votes.

Ben Houchen has shown that a Tory connection gets access to the magic money tree.

Vote Tory - you get the money.

Vote Labour (or other) - you get nothing.
We'll see. We've had nothing from Houchen that makes any real difference to our lives. We were in a better state before his position existed.

We've had nothing from this government other than promises. No real change other than a real swing towards corruption
