George Saville

He scored a winning goal for the Boro at the City ground. Forever a hero in my eyes for that.
Not his fault re the fee paid. Played in several positions, probably never enough in his favoured position. Never complained or a disruptive influence that I know of.

don’t know why he would get a poor reception.

Question is, will our new ground announcer give out their team sheet along with ours. George had to wait till the end to get his welcome back applause.

He was alright really. Generally put a shift in. It wasn't his fault we were daft enough to pay what we paid for him.

Visited the Millwall forum and their fans don't seem to have rated his recent performances.
Comments such as 'half the player he was'
That's him scoring then :)

Couldn't believe our recruitment team was hoodwinked so easily.
Jed Spence + Saville for £10m (or whatever fee).
No, tell you what Boro you can have the Beaker look-a-like for £7m

6 goals and 4 assists from the midfield, and there were plenty of efforts that hit the crossbar or where the keeper had to pull off an excellent save to prevent it.

Joe Lumley's one man mission to keep a clean sheet against us with QPR stands out as a match where Saville was incredibly unfortunate to not add to his goal tally.

That's a decent return.
His general gameplay was and is garbage. He may well of scored 6 but being the powder puff CM he is, he will of cost us much more and not just goals points. Barnsley away comes to mind.

If someone offered Boro 7 million for him would you expect the club to take it?
I would.
I don't blame Millwall for selling or Mr Saville for signing.
I don't think he or Millwall could believe it either.
He did nothing wrong.
He just wasn't worth what we payed and everyone knew it.

Spot the typo 😉

I used to play fat lads footy with a couple of Millwall fans who couldn't believe their luck when we agreed to that deal. Their version was that we'd offered around 8m for both, only to end up with just Saville for 7m - and they also rated Wallace as by far the better player of the two.

As for today - I only heard his name mentioned by the commentator when he either committed a foul or was fouled. Don't remember any other moments.

I doubt anyone was more surprised at us offering 8 million for George Saville than George Saville was.

Looked like he has been overdoing the pie and mash and gained a few lb. Anonymous yesterday and got a fair reception from the fans. I am in the minority I know but I always quite liked him just not his price tag - managers never really made their minds up as to what they wanted him to be.

Genuinely didn’t realise he was on the pitch until after the game. Any reason why the new Mark Page doesn’t read out the away team? Seems poor form.

Same, I didn't realise he was playing.

As for the announcer, he always messes up the reading out of the team. He's too slow, so when he reads out a players name it's never in synch with the players photo on the big screen.

As for not reading out the away lineup, I find it a bit bizarre really. I'd be a bit ***ed off if I were an away fan.

Yesterday the mic seemed to cut out whilst he was reading out the team, so only heard half the team.

In fairness, it wasn't his fault and a PA issue but still makes us look amateurish. I was in the Middlehaven before the game and both of the mics weren't working whilst John Hendrie tried to give a speech. He had a bit of a dig and said, "typical Boro" but it is poor to be honest.
