Labour criticise government for number of migrants crossing channel

I laughed last week when it showed the French police turn up an hour after a boat had been launched and one of them was having a cigarette on the beach. The government are paying the French millions to stop them from crossing and the French authorities are nonchalant about the whole affair.

Surely they must know who are supplying the boats. I struggled to buy an inflatable during the summer in France and outboard motors are soaring in price because of demand. I ended up paying nearly £300 more than I would have in this country.
Can't stop this happening but easily find the odd fishing boat kicking about

Of course, everybody has their own opinion - I would hope that we could deal with a similar situation better than the French.
We do "our" bit daily and rescue the ones that approach our shoreline. It's criminal that this was allowed to happen
How well do we address illegality in this country? With our under resourced Police Force and border control (both saw funding cuts from Austerity).

I'm sure we would nip it in the bud. Easy to constantly patrol all that coastline.

Dad's Army would have handled this 'invasion' no problem.

I'd have thought there would be an abundance of motivated pensioners could step up and do a stint in between the fruit picking.

Since 2010, rough sleeper numbers doubled.

We currently see record Food Bank usage.

A 3rd of children in this country live in poverty. A f*cking third!

Aye, I'm sure we would compassionately sort out the illegal crossing issue if people would just let us handle it. We wouldn't allow people to put themselves at risk. All heart us. We look after people.

Not only are the French not stopping them crossing, their Police (pardon the pun) look like they are aiding and abetting them to get here and laughing at us while taking those £millions.
Yer couldn't make it up.

They are not receiving the promised millions. What can a couple of police officers do to stop 30 people boarding a boat? Especially when they are not doing anything illegal.

You just made it up.

The easiest way to stop the crossing would be to allow people to apply for asylum in the UK from French soil - 98% of those that cross are granted asylum - but the Govt wont do it as they are more concerned with anti migrant headlines to appease the right wing nut jobs that vote for them.

I wasn't aware they were in France legally, or indeed any of the other countries they travel through to get here. Did I miss something ?

in 2020 France granted asylum to 436,000 refugees. we granted asylum to 132,000

But according to some we are 'full' and its all Frances problem...

All condoned by our caring, sharing Tory voters.
It's noticeable that it's only took 24hrs after the horror of yesterday for an anti foreigner (French) vibe to take a grip.

Johnson may be clueless as to how to fix the issue (any issue) but he is effective at getting the dander up of his base support.

Tories don't deal in facts and figures. Bluster, lies and rhetoric is the way forward
