Boro Players on Loan

it’s a tough trade professional football, I think I read somewhere only about 0.3% of academy kids go on to make a career in the pro league’s, I’ve followed a relative of mine who is an amazing talent and has been at all 3 north east clubs over the years (twice at Boro) since he was 7, he actually made his pro debut for Sunderland in the EFL trophy and scored what ended up being the winning goal this week but still can’t get into the match day squad!

agreed. must be Stephen Wearne then? I saw him a couple of times for the u18s and he always looked very talented (similar to Walker).

Well done Sir, you are right 👍, absolutely fantastic player and was in the same team as Ste Walker, I’ve seen Walker a couple of times for the U18s and he looked a good prospect and scored an absolute belter in one of the games, but he just doesn’t seem to be able to make the next step, he’s looked well off the pace every time he has made a first team appearance and isn’t having much luck out on loan 🤷‍♂️

yeah, I always remember Walker having a fantastic chance to score in a home league game, must have been under Woodgate. He always seemed either nervous or trying too hard (or both) to me. Who knows if that had gone in. Isaiah Jones has shown it's about taking your opportunity.

File under Nathan Porritt, Cameron Park
I think mentioning Walker in the same breath as those two is an insult to Walker, quite frankly.

Park made his senior debut and was at Marske United in little over three years. Porritt never managed even one senior appearance for Boro and was playing for Stokesley within two years of signing his first professional contract with the club. Walker has made more appearances for Boro than both of them combined. He's made more senior career appearances in three years than both of those two managed in their combined seven seasons as professionals. Park and Porritt were clearly talented boys who weren't prepared to put the work in. Walker is quite clearly prepared to put the graft in.

I think you need to reassess your comparisons because they're absolutely way off.

It's a big step up from junior to senior football. I'm seeing so many former young pros in the Northern League and for many of them that level is too much for them at their level of development, whilst other young players who haven't been through the league club junior sides are standing out at the same age.

There's a few Danny Grahams our the but far more Nathan Porritts. One of the things I find ugly within the game is fans putting these young boys on a pedestal then slating them when they don't develop, and it's not all about putting the work in.

Walker may have made more appearances but his impact has been negligible. So I believe the comparison does stand up
