Celtic fans very bitter about Riley

So you think it's good that Boro signed a player who clearly is in it only for the money.

Good luck to him.
I doubt it's purely about the money, he has a better manager, some better quality workmates, and better career prospects at Boro.

He looked at what both managers had to offer and chose us, great, it's a positive for us not a negative about him. Besides he's signed in europes 5th best league playing for 14k/week, not a middle east league for 180k/week

So you think that if Celtic offered the same deal, he'd choose Boro?

He better be good!!
Don't expect the finished article, he still has to improve his passing and finishing, but high energy, really god at driving forward with the ball at his feet and pressing high up the pitch and winning it back early. Sounds ideal for a Wilder team

He should, Scotland is a footballing backwater. If someone from estonia or finland or Czech republic league got the offer of celtic it would be a step up. If he was 27/28 and the chance of being a prem regular had passed him by then yeah it might be an opportunity to play in europe and get some silverware before they retire......but for a 23 year old that has already proven good enough for the championship and still learning, it would be a career mistake to go to scotland. You improve by challenging yourself against better players, 95% of celtics games are against league one and two standard players.

moving from the prem/championship to the scottish league is the cowards way

It just seems a very risky prospect. Celtic are a much bigger club, playing in the Europa league. Boro are going to pay him a load of money, to outbid Celtic. If he's any good then he won't want to stay at Boro, it's easy to see he's ambitious. If he's not, then it's more money wasted.

Give the financial mess that is MFC, I think it's a huge gamble.

Good luck to him though, I hope it works out.

Not sure it’s a huge gamble, he’s played in the championship for 18 months and between Scott and Wilder he will have been on one or both of their lists for a long time. He’s a sought after player cos he’s a good player technical player at a good age with championship experience. The signing makes complete sense.

They're delusionally funny - they remind me of the Geordies .. They're a big fish in a tiny puddle and somehow they think it makes them a European powerhouse .. don't they get knocked out of Europe each year by Latvian part-timers?

I wasn't implying that it was a bad thing that we were allegedly paying more than Celtic, just pointing out that's usually the deciding factor with players or more particularly agents these days. Looks a decent prospect, would imagine that this might mean the exit for one or two of our other midfielders given we have also signed Boyd from Birmingham. Siliki seems to have been an underwhelming signing and Payero is yet to feature under Wilder, maybe we are also trying to reduce our reliance on Howson, Tav and Crooks or maybe we are looking to develop Tav as a left wing back?

Celtic aren't playing in the Europa League. They got knocked out of the groups having conceded the most goals in the tournament.
