Meals your parents used to make (or still do).

Me Gran’s Yorkshires with green Yorkshire salad and gravy before the Sunday roast (usually brisket). - there’d quite often be a garnish of Lambert and Butler fagash, if you were unlucky.

Mum used to make beef stew with prunes and dumplings, which always went down well

my Stepdad often delighted us with his spotted d*ck
😁

Used to love a rabbit pie with an enormous pie crust on it - obviously to bulk it out. The bottom of the pie crust soaking up the gravy and the top as hard as granite. mmmm

Steamed suet puddings. Mam & gran used to make a leek pudding wrapped in a tea towel and steamed. Served with mince & gravy.

Another vote for mince & dumplings. Still a favourite.

Never used to have panickilty but I had it at a home game earlier this season at The Zetland (match day special). Bloody lovely.

Me dad's home made chips done in 2 year old oil or however old it was. You can stick your triple cooked fancy dan chips up yer bum, me dad's chips were outstanding. Perfect with a stack of white buttered bread, nowt else

My Dad did a mean spag bol, and my Mum's mushroom soup was just perfection. Both my Nans were exceptional cooks one did a great rabbit pie and the other lemon meringue pie. I don't ever remember having processed food either.

Grew up in the 70s so me mam had an ability to create amazing meals from very little, pigs cheek, offal, broths etc But because it was the 70s convenience was the thing so also mixed it up with spam, findus pizzas and angel delight.I think it would be described as eclectic.

Was born in 84 so I’ve never had the vast majority of these.

But I’d love to try them.

Maybe @Randy could do a FMTTM night with 60/70s food on the menu!

Mince and dumplings, liver n Onions and curry with sultanas in for some reason, which seemed really odd at the time in the 80s

Just a couple of things I've not seen mentioned. Home-made fish and chips cooked in lard. Up until my teens we rarely had fish and chips from the chip shop. My mother's batter was to die for and they never tasted better than straight from the pan onto the plate. I think mid-60s there was a fad for mixed grills, the american influence - I suppose now it's called an all-day breakfast. It was always on a saturday lunchtime and the only day my father cooked. In our house it was always, bacon, eggs, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans with fried bead.

I should also mention kippers and baked rolled herrings when they were cheap and plentiful.

Panackelty

Chicken, bacon and mushroom pie (flaky pastry) with thick onion gravy and mushy peas
I made penacalty (that’s how I spelt it earlier anyway) tonight and it was bloody lovely. The wife rarely eats meat, but even she cleaned her plate.

Mince and dumplings is my other favourite.

Moussaka, but with potatoes instead of aubergine, I loved it.

Liver and onions, which I hated at the time, but now really enjoy as an adult.

She also did something that she called nasi goreng but seems to have had very little resemblance to the actual dish, it was basically paella with Asian spice, beautiful.
