Tav

I like Tav, he always to get a bad press, is it because he is always involved and in view. He constantly on the move and making space. Yes some bad passes then again don't they all. Berating any player in the current team is beyond me.
That's a very good point Norfolk. Because he is on the ball so much, he is constantly under scrutiny.

He is a very good player, a notch above championship level and is so important to the way we play. I have no doubt at all that the other players love having him in the line up, as he always gives them an option, and more than once has managed to get the team out of trouble at the back, and win the ball higher up the pitch to start of an attack.

I don't think anyone has been brought in to replace him, they will have been brought in to give the manager options on a game-by-game basis.

I have been critical of him in the past for sure, and it's hard to argue that his attacking output has been poor for a while now.

But he always puts a shift in and the weekend showed us signs of him getting back to form - hopefully now he has some competition for his place we will see what he can really do

Definitly a player who never hides, always involved and yes makes errors but he’s always there to be counted. I like that about him. Key player.

I took a mate to the Luton game (was a QPR fan). He was aghast at some of the stick Tav was getting that night. He didn’t understand it. “I was just wondering what he would bring to QPR“ and he thought he was our best player that night I agreed and said we had a target for the Boo Boy in Tav because he was a player that spent most of the time on the ball - which was something for a Warnock side.

Last couple of games he's improved massively as he seems to be taking less pop shot at goals when a better pass is available. I'd have to say this was his biggest let down, well that and poor set pieces, but he showed that he has the ability to put decent balls in against Reading.

I've never questioned his off the ball play though, never have I seen a player so determined to win the ball back than I have Tav.

Hopefully it was a confidence issue as it looks like he's playing with much more of that now.

Exactly this. How many times under Warnock did he have the ball on the edge of the box and sky a shot over the bar? The composure he's showing since wilder took over is definitely noticeable. Mcgree's arrival can only improve him too.

This is it for me. Some people are unable to see beyond goals and assists (or basically the eye catching stuff). I don't think there's any doubt Tav could and should have a better end product. It's frustrating at times. Particularly when you see crosses like that. You know he has it in him.

But regardless of that he's nearly always worth his place in the team for his workrate and ability to help us win and move the ball up the pitch. He must be a nightmare to play against, doesn't give you a minutes peace on the ball.

He's a managers dream. Good in possession. Brilliant out of possession. It's really only decision making and end product in the final third that lets him down at times. But the work he does allows other players more opportunities to do those things anyway.

Bottom line is we're a better team with him in it.
Spot on.

If he did have higher goals and assists, he'd be a Prem player pushing for England.

In that particular match Onal Hernandez played and hardly noticeable all game and created or did nothing. And because he hid in effect he got no stick at all from the fans and Tav got it both barrels at times. Go figure.

I wonder how Tav would do in the Howson role, since his strengths seems to be ball recovery and passing.?

He would absolutely do a job, but what Tav brings to the team and why he is vitally iimportant, especially in Wilders system, is the energy to press and win the ball back in dangerous areas. We don't want him sweeping up in front of our back 4, we want him pressing their defenders and midfielders and winning it back in the final and middle third.

He might not get many assists, however I would guess he creates numerous goals/chances by winning the ballback higher up and assisting the assister (if that makes sense)

He may even assist the assister of the assister quite a lot.

Yeah but if say mcgree can also bring that energy but be more creative in the final third as well and it would be an incredibly high energy midfield three. Nothing against Howson but at his age he will be getting replaced soon, and I don't think he will be good enough for that position if we managed to get up.

Probably one of our most frustrating players, currently.

But take him out that first 11 and we suffer big time.

When he's there, he's frustrating because he gets into some great positions and doesn't finish. Also sometimes his final ball is rash, but the lad never stops running and the opponents never get a moments peace with him.

He has to be in our first 11, it's as simple as that.

Its funny because isaiah jones wastes a lot of good opportunities and gives the ball away alot too but doesnt seem to get any stick. Tav is fantastic for us, what he does in that clip he has been doing all season. If we scored every chance we created we would have won the league by now.

Players play for us because they have deficiencies in their game, doesnt mean they are rubbish. Every midfield player doesnt have to score goals to be a top player.

Jones has 1 goal and 7 assists this season, he's won penalties and he basically assisted the winner against Mansfield.

He doesn't get stick because he's consistently involved in goals.
Wilder has been here for 10 games, Jones has been directly involved in 7 goals in 6 of those games.

Tavernier has been directly involved in 1 goal in 1 of Wilder's 10 games, and it was the last one.

I think the criticism of Tavernier is far too harsh, especially lately when he's putting a shift in constantly, but it's easier for people to make the criticism when the stats are falling short.
That and his set piece deliveries have been largely dreadful all season, but thankfully he popped up with a few good ones on Saturday.

I'm sure a subsect of our fans would start to get on Jones' back if he was in a similar situation.

You make them sound worlds apart. This season ones been involved directly in 7 the other directly involved in 3, both scoring 1.

'He basically assisted the winner against Mansfield' but he actually didn't assist him did he. 😛

My comparison wasn't a stick to beat jones with btw he is excellent but so is tav. Both in different ways. It's just strange when we are on this run people still need to criticise.
