Electric and Gas Cost

My power company blue planet went bust a few months back, lost my fixed price deal. Government then select you a company.

I was given to shell energy. It turns out pure planet where a subsidiary of shell, who decided to stop the investment/funding in blue planet as prices increased.

Sweet. Disaster capitalism at its best. The important thing is Shell will have made ££££.

We pay £200/month for 2 of us and we don't have the heating on 24/7 and I do run lots of gadgets and home automation. I just don't understand how people are supposed to live. We have lots of things like hive TRVs so we can turn on the heating in one room only (outlay isn't cheap) but I expected to see a reduction in monthly costs, but nope it keeps going up.

One thing we should be pushing is solar panels on new build homes, they are already bringing a rule in for electric vehicle charging points to be fitted, how we will meet the demand for this is another thing once we are driven into EV's.
Not solar panels, they are too big. A company in Sunderland is developing Solar Film that can be fitted onto almost anything. The sooner it is commercially available the better.

We already pay 160 per month to EDF and working from home using a lot more. In a fixed deal until 2023 but dread to think what it will increase to. Hopefully prices will come down by then?

Rang up to sort mine the other day as I dropped onto variable after octopus went bust.
Daily rate almost the same
Unit price double for electric and triple for gas. I don’t even think the variable will get that high. I’m going to ride it for abit
Octopus bust? Are you sure. I’m still on a fixed rate which ends in March. The options came through from them this morning.

Maybe there is an argument for nuclear but to suggest fracking is pretty horrific
Why is it?

It is common place in America and the consumers over there enjoy very reasonable energy bills.

We are going to see some huge price hikes.

We don't need fracking or nuclear to become more self sufficient. That's short termist nonsense.
Not at all.

It is a way of providing affordability, security and reliability of energy in this country.

Stretching the COP targets will provide time to find better sustainable options down the line.

We saw how useful turbines were last year when the wind didn’t blow enough…..

Only if we choose to. We can always look at nationalising and subsidising.

Can you imagine the knock on for the NHS without action taking place?

Fracking is good in the wide open spaces of the USA and Australia but a full on disaster in built up areas.
The very nature of it completely changes the hydrogeologicl infrastructure..... infrastructure that has remained undisturbed for 1000s of years.
Nobody can predict with any accuracy what happens to the pathways.

Make explosions underground to release inflammable gas.... just the sound of it is ridiculous in built up areas.
Check out Queensland.....

On a fixed price with Scottish Power at moment and price is ok. Think it might expire some time this year though. Bought a new build with solar panels, I dont know how much they save us though. Even builders when we moved it said they knew nothing about them. They are just there, lol.

It's staggering how much bills are going up. I was very lucky last year and entered a two-year fixed contract with British Gas at £100 per month. I'm hoping by the time it's up for renewal prices might have returned to some sort of reasonable level.

2022 will see ANOTHER council tax rise, National Insurance rise, massive energy prices increases and food is starting to really go up too.

"It's commonplace in America". Yes that's who we should be looking towards to build a sustainable future 🤣

We store excess wind energy now

The US is huge and full of emptiness, we are small and not.

It's pretty simple really.
