Automatic Promotion - Forget it now....

I wouldn't quite write it off, but it was always an outside chance at best. Warnock left us with too much to do.

Can we catch 10 points in 18 games plus a game in hand? Not impossible, but very difficult as there are another 4 teams we would need to out perform.

44 points in 19 games need. 14 wins, a couple of draws and 3 defeats? That's a tough ask for a team that don't put the ball in the net enough.

Could look very different in a week. If we beat Cov, and Blackburn lose away to Luton and Swansea. Then we will be 7 behind with 2 games in hand.....and it's game on again. Of course we need Barnsley to do the unthinkable and beat Bournemouth at Oakwell this weekend too putting us 4 behind Bournemouth.

I'm not writing it off just yet.
Even if that happens you've forgotten about QPR, West Brom and Huddersfield Stoke have a game in hand and Coventry 2 on us...

Realistically it requires Boro to gain 11 points because of the goal difference. If Blackburn win 9 more games, draw 4 and lose 5 - which would be a decidedly average finish to the season for a promotion chasing team - then Boro would need 42 points from 19 games, which is not feasible.

Warnock had a few good results and briefly we were in the playoffs.....just like Wilder 👍
We were very briefly in the play offs this season under Warnock due to the way the fixture list played out. He won 3 on the spin against relegation threatened Cardiff, Barnsley and Peterbrough. We Played all of the bottom 6 , plus a then bottom of the league forest in in his first 14 games!

How many defeats is it now? 9. Sides gaining automatic promotion don't lose more than 10 in a typical season. I think Karanka's promotion side ended up with 9 defeats all season. I think it's fair to say we'll lose more than one more game in the next 20. Automatic promotion is never happening.
Newcastle strangely went up as champions with 10 defeats in 16/17
Watford 11 in 14/15
Hull went up in second with 15 defeats in 12/13

Realistically 3 more defeats puts us in unchartered territory for auto promotion (other than Hull who were a freak season).

Huddersfield went up via play offs with FIFTEEN defeats! As did Palace and west ham in early 00s. I would think 15 might be too many defeats to make play offs this year.

Yeah, I know, I meantioned 4 other teams between us and second which what really makes it near impossible. Cov game this weekend, it's a biggie, lose and they are 2 points behind with 2 games in hand, that's trouble. Win and we're 8 ahead and if they fail to win one of them we'll still have a couple of games buffer.

Time for our bloody strikers to dust off their shooting boots and give the clown shoes back to Bill Smart's Circus

Win 13, Draw 3, Lose 3
Feasible. But I doubt 84 points will be enough for top 2.

The table was more bunched of course at that time with less games played......
We need to look at points from the play off zone.....only 2 points difference between Wilder and Warnock, pretty similar really 👍
So say if we were two points away from the playoff zone after one game is that better than being two points away over half-way through the season 🤔

It's 3 points for a win so if we were 2 points away after half a season we would only be 1 point ahead at the start of the season, the same would go for Blackpool who are mid table and have some games in hand 👍

Despite our loss to Blackburn second place is deffo up for grabs and that’s how CW will motivate his players for each and every game. Realistically we’re probably looking at 5 or 6 spot but as we all know anything can happen in this league.

Worth remembering Warnock would have had us about 15th by this stage, with no chance of attracting any decent loan players. You must be gutted just how much better we look once Warnock was sacked
Still outside the play off zone, just 2 points closer.... pretty similar isn't it ?

I for one would be delighted with a top six finish.
Not since the glory days under Tony Pulis have we reached such dizzy heights.
How I miss those days.
We would put every man behind the ball to valiantly defend a 0-1 defeat.
We came so close to beating the mighty Burton and Newport in the cups.
But we had parachute money then so we could afford to pay Rudy Gestede.
We no longer have such expensive quality.
But for some odd reason.
I like the team we have now better.
