Derby in the Guardian

I’ve still not seen any of the media address the issue that of Derby are allowed to pay back a reduced amount to creditors (except football creditors) and then potentially buy the ground back for £20m and possibly (given they could still survive) a year’s sabbatical in the Third Division is clearly not a sufficient punishment.

You an argue all you want about the history, how damaging it is to the town, impacts upon the fans, but they simply cannot be allowed to effectively write off £100m plus losses when no other club has been afforded the same benefit.

I feel for the fans to some extent however they don’t seem to realise they’ve had their cake and they are still trying to eat it. There has to be additional conditions attached to the sale meaning all debts must be paid back and the stadium has to be bought for the same price or more than it was sold for, otherwise the club has not been punished.

Unfortunately we all know it won’t happen, they’ll have benefited to the tune of £120m, had a year of pain and then be in a much better financial position than virtually every other club in the Championship - which is preposterous.
This exactly 👏👏

Just rename it "The Establishment".
Its an official mouthpiece for Whitehall "leaks" - ie: pre-selected privilege to information from t.he civil service and the military.
Neoliberalism - dressed up in slacks and an organic cotton jumper.
What utter tosh

The Guardian is one of the last decent papers around IMO
Its far away to the right of the same organ which backed exposure by Snowden and Assange of lies and supra-state surveillance.
After MI5 confiscated its data bases and smashed up its hardware - the Gruniad has fallen in line - even before Andy Rusbridger stepped down as Editor in Chief. Andy had principles and moved on at the right time.

And now in the BBC : "The key issues are establishing a preferred bidder and from that, to have meaningful dialogue with Middlesbrough and Wycombe over their outstanding compensation claims that threaten to land Derby with another £60m bill."

After years of subscribing to The Grauniad, I have become more and more disillusioned by the content. The article advising ‘How To Wear Luxury Slippers’ pushed me to the edge, but what has tipped me off the cliff is the nauseating sycophancy to royalty. This was a paper that would advise readers of a royal wedding by inserting a small paragraph on page 5. Now, we are treated to colour photographs and fashion articles. Pass me the sick bag.

Well good luck recognising who's who and knowing what to wear on your feet next time you are invited to the palace for a sleepover.............

Further evidence, if it was needed that the Guardian is now a right wing paper.

They should rename it the Guardian of the Tax Fraud.
Wow! I must of missed that. I suppose you mean right of the extreme left. Strange that plenty of posters get very excited at anything The Guardian publishes as long as it's sufficiently left leaning.

Been given an extra month to prove they've got funds to end the season.
Taken from your link: The extra month also allows more time for Derby’s debt to HM Revenue & Customs to be addressed. The club are thought to have had positive conversations with HMRC over an agreement to pay significantly less than the £29.3m they owe.

Any other company would be forced to pay the full amount to the HMRC or very close to it, why are Derby any different? If they are allowed to get away with this then they should be a transfer embargo placed on them.

Other clubs who have fallen out of the league must be questioning why the EFL are giving Derby preferential treatment.

There has been a seismic shift, from being a left-of-centre broadsheet with a conscience, to a neo-liberal tract which pays lip-service to its history and ailing leadership.

They're spunking my council tax on this nonsense, of which they have less, due to the fact Morris has refused to pay HMRC in the first place.

They should put signs up asking him to pay his f king tax bill if anything. Or even better, stop wasting even more cash on the failed company stinking out the place.
Its disgusting when the current Council Leader expresses his support and gives credence to the cheat:

Mel Morris's role as business ambassador for Derby could (?!!) change, says councillor

Position of former Derby County owner to be clarified tomorrow.

Mel Morris, the former Derby County owner, is still an Ambassador for Business and Innovation for Derby, although this may change following a meeting tomorrow (January 28) a councillor has said.

Mr Morris became the city’s first-ever Ambassador for Business and Innovation in 2018, a role by created by council chiefs to help attract more businesses and investment.

The football club entered administration in September last year but Mr Morris still owns the stadium.

Many fans have showed disdain for the former owner on social media and some have questioned his ambassador role given the current situation with the city's football club.

Speaking on the BBC Radio Derby's Sportscene podcast, Conservative Derby City Council leader Chris Poulter discussed Mr Morris' role as business ambassador.

Cllr Poulter said: "We have had great co operation from him (Mel Morris), look at what Derby County Community Trust, that he set up, still does for the city."

However Cllr Poulter did confirm that Mr Morris hasn't taken an "active role" as the city's business and innovation ambassador and his position could potentially change in the near future.

He said: "On paper he is still ambassador but we haven't had the opportunity to talk to him about but we will on Friday (January 28).

"I don't see the point in beating someone when they are down on that issue."

Cllr Poulter said if Mr Morris wasn't in a position to continue, there would be "a lot of suitable, great business people in the city that could take over the role".

During the short interview Cllr Poulter defended Mr Morris as he said: "I am going to step out of line a little bit and say can we remember when Mel Morris took over the club, I believe he took over the club with good intentions.

"I think he made some decisions which has led us where we are now, but he's not put pocket money into the club, he has put significant money in a number of bids to get us up (to the Premier League) but it went wrong and that is one thing I ask people to remember."

Always the "extreme right" who labels others "extreme left".
Its called self-contradiction. (y)
Roofie. You're right and these idiots are wrong. Don't let them get to you mate. I don't know how you manage to stay so polite all the time on here but I admire you for it.

Im confused...i thought administrators said derby would run out of money next week in February and now the EFL have given them another month to prove they can complete the season. Are they borrowing more money to cover payments til march? Or selling players?

I have belief:
My blind faith in Sir Chris, to lead us up the stairway to heaven and guide us to victory at Salford United.
I see the red ribbons around two large silver "cups": one says "Play-off Final Winners" 2022
The other reads "Football Association Challenge Cup Winners" - 2022.
All else pales into insignificance.:love::love:(y)
UTMB!

And still not paying the mounting Tax bill owed to public funds!
