Wayne Rooney - showing integrity and class

Not a statement I ever thought I would say. In the light of goings-on at Derby- allegedly Mel hasn’t spoken to him since early August- he is coming out of this shambles very well the way he is staying loyal and standing by his squad.

Fair play to him - certainly showing great maturity especially when he heard via the media about them going into admin. Well done, fella, you could have thrown your toys out of the pram and walked

He can’t lose now if they go down it’s someone else’s fault and poor Wayne, I’d they survive he’s a hero and a great manager battling adversity.

so no wonders he’s upbeat

he’s just hit the jackpot

I maybe a cynic but he's just like Bruce at the mags. He won't 'walk' because you lose all rights to gardening leave pay etc.

I actually feel that he may feel a bit embarrassed knowing he's on the best part of 100k a week (although god knows who's paying what percentage of it). I don't know how but he's one of the highest paid managers in the champo.

This is how..

Turned down an invitation to interview for the Everton job.

He's no fool is Rooney. No point in going to a Club where there is no win win - if they get relegated it would be a stain on his career, if hey survive its what they expected anyway.

At Derby however he is in a win win - survive he is a hero and his stock advanced. If they go down it wasn't his fault at all.

He's doing an excellent job at Derby, both as manager & his interviews, there can't be many who aren't surprised at how well he doing as manager & how professional he is with the media

Still think its far too early to be considered for the Everton position, IMHO, he's far too inexperienced to go into an unstable club, a big club, for me I think the only reason the club have considered Rooney is fans pressure, he's best off where he is.

Well advised, not the time for someone with his limited experience to be going there, maybe in a few years time when he’s got more experience and they are in a better place.

The way Rooney has conducted himself at Derby is impressive. It seems to me he feels an obligation to help the club out of a mess created by one person. It's a great move turning down an interview and will have a brilliant impact on the players.

Too right. A move to Everton at his stage of his managerial career would have been a wrong one.

He's definitely proving me wrong. Looks like he's matured well.

Good self awareness too (presumably). Plenty of his peers would jump at the chance for a bigger job regardless of whether they were ready or not. Whatever happens with Derby it's not going to harm his prospects and he'll learn a lot from the experience.

Taking over a job like Everton in the position they're in at this stage of the season is a hell of a gamble for a rookie manager.

They say behind every good man is a good woman, lets not forget who he's married to. She's no mug either. Rooney has character as well as loyalty. Thought he was messed about a bit at ManU and England at times.
