Ronnie O'Sullivan

Random comment. With no relevance to what I said

Do you disagree thay Lewis gets less respect for being a 7 times world champion than Ronnie does?
Behind the times on this one for me.

I think Lewis gets more if your purely basing it on SPOTY wins/nominations.

I wonder if Hamilton's success has anything to do with the car he's driving?

O'Sullivan's competing on a level playing field. Big difference.
No. To both.

Butt thanks for pricing my point. The man's a 7 time world champion and gets no respect from certain people. Its sad

Hamilton's championships are very dependent on driving the best cars on the grid. Don't get me wrong, he's not gifted the best cars - he's an exceptional driver and has worked hard over his career to get the drives in those cars but it's just not all about him. The team & car have a part to play - this season highlights this very well.

O'Sullivan has no such advantages - his cue isn't 'the best in the tournament' - it's just man v man. I'd say another reason O'Sillivan's achievements are lauded more is his overall record - he's been dominant for years 20+ years and is a joy to watch.

Both deserve respect. But both are behind the best sportsman in the world... Phil The Power Taylor, who has a truly unrivalled record of any sportsman in any sport

Such a shame you can't see the difference. O'Sullivan is up against opposition using only his skill. Hamilton has a full team ensuring he has more than enough to beat all but possibly one other.

How can you not see that?

Such a shame you don't understand F1. Lewis is a 7 time world champion. How can you not see that?

I guess that's one reason why he doesn't get the respect he deserves, ignorance of the sport. I suspect there are worse reasons out there though

The best car argument is just such a terrible take on it all. I guess it is one of the reasons he doesn't get the respect he deserves though. People not understanding the sport

We should be proud we have both the GOAT's in both sports.

I very much doubt there'll ever be another 'Ronnie O'Sullivan' in snooker. The bloke is just a genius. Didn't he win a World Championship without playing professional snooker for about 6 months. That is just ridiculous.

And then what Lewis has achieved in F1 is incredible. It's a shame he was cheated out of a record breaking title.

Both are the greatest's of their sport. No question.

And both deserve massive praise & respect.

Not sure what I'm lacking in understanding there..? Could you explain? I don't want to be missing something that could change my opinion.

It's the standard response of people who want to disrespect Lewis. "Oh it's the car". Such a misunderstanding of the sport. Standard ignorance.

Ah, I see. That wasn't really answering the question though. I suppose the question is: Why does Hamilton having the best cars not matter?

It all plays it's part. The worst driver in the best car wouldn't win 7 champs and neither would the best driver in the worst car. It is everything as a package... the driver, the car, the team etc. To say that shouldn't be dismissed as the standard response 'Oh it's the car'. And if anything I was praising Lewis as "an exceptional driver".

Having watched F1 for 30+ years I can appreciate how good Lewis is but also appreciate that the car / team / budget plays its part too. Much like other sports - Man City for example are an exceptional team but they are only there because they are stupidly rich. They are no Leicester.

With snooker there isn't that reliance on others for your success. Maybe that is why O'Sullivan's 7 WC's rank greater in some peoples opinion? Who knows.
