A Woman playing in a mens team....

Regardless of conversations about ability etc, is there an actual rule that would prevent a woman playing in a mens team.?
I’d be keen to see how Lucy Bronze would fair in a lower league mens side, just purely out of fascination.

I think she’s a level above the other England players and the only one I could see potentially holding her own.

I think we're a way away from that, its down to size and genetics. No women centre forward would get anywhere up against a Van Dijk (not many men do!) and not many women midfielders would win 50/50s with Declan Rice, yes im at the top end of the scale but i just don't think genetically they size up, for want of a better word. I think we may see intergender friendlies, or even charity games like Soccer aid, but in a professional game im not sure as it would also completely dilute the womens game if their best players left the WSL clubs to join 'mens' teams, then their womens teams would be left behind with little no to attention and you don't want the ladies, or girls growing up hoping to break into mens teams?

Would love to see a female manager get a top job to be honest, could be a genius move if a club gets it right.

There's a big market of untapped talent out there for someone brave enough. You'd have to think the best female coach in the world would be up there with the best men. Who's to say they wouldn't be better even?

And yet a club like ours would probably be able to attract them, whereas we'd have no chance of getting a Klopp. 🤔💡

Can’t see women ever playing in a men’s team as that would open up the (equal) opportunity of men playing in women’s teams and that wouldn’t go down well!

i think football is one sport where a woman could actually compete with men, they would have to be really exceptional players but if you take for instance Juninho or even Messi, they have extremely slight physiques but made it because of sheer skill, as well as pace, if i woman was a quick enough and had amazing skill then i think it is potentially possible.

In terms of managers however, I could very easily see the likes of Emma Hayes or Sarina Weigman managing in the upper echelons of English football in future. What doesn't help their cause however is the likes of the Arsenal manager being a male who nobody has ever heard of.
He's managed at Champions League level in the women's game before taking over at Arsenal. He's unknown outside of women's football but he's clearly a good manager.

I'd like to see Emma Hayes or Sarina Wiegman as manager of Middlesbrough but they may see it as a step down. Plus, they may want to continue to grow the women's game rather than switching over to the men's game. And you can't blame them for that.

There is nothing to say that their success as a coach/tactician in the women's game would automatically transfer over to the men's. It is almost a different game purely because of the physical attributes. Tactics designed to win against a women's team where you can play hoofs into space for a footrace aren't possible in the modern men's game. Maybe the female coaches are just working with what they've got and they could adapt. It would be an interesting experiment.

There is no reason women in general couldn't succeed though. Being a manager doesn't require physical skills and female managers work in every other industry. It's a weird industry football management. Part-PR, part actually managing and being the face/name is all it takes sometimes. We all know that footballers aren't always the brightest but they constantly get given jobs. You'd think there must be 1000s of people capable of managing a football team that will never get a chance because they weren't a professional footballer. The path to football management if you never played the game professionally is almost impossible.

Why should woman be added to the mens game , I’m near certain they want their own game and not be interested in joining the mens game .
and good on them 👍🏻
id like to see them do well just exactly as they are .

True, but the question wasn't whether they would want to, it was whether there is an actual rule that would prevent a woman from playing in a men's team - and the answer is that if she were over 18, then yes, there is such a rule.

Women will never be able to compete physically with men, and that’s not being sexist, it’s just down to biology

I personally think it’s a non event — meaning it can’t happen just yet as the women’s game isn’t able to compete with any pro level of the men’s game. Maybe we’ll see a world beater of a female who might be able to open the door but I seriously doubt it.

There’s other issues surrounding this situation and that is if women are allowed to play in the men’s game then perhaps men can be allowed to play in the women’s game — we all know the answer there. However we could get a trans playing in the woman’s game which is surely to be met with a lot of opposition.

I guess if it's not a rule. Then can a man play for a women's team?

The point being is that if it's not a rule and technically 'ok' then you'd open up for blokes to go the other way.

We could see Rudy rocking up in the WSL😂

I wish some of our players had the awareness of Keira Walsh
I would say almost every single player in the championship has at least the same level if not far greater awareness than Kiera Walsh. What is different is the level of the opposition team working on closing down instantly, covering, tracking runs and generally being a lot more aggressively at it than you see in a woman's game.

It's already been pointed out that there is a rule against it.
