It's the commercial v the sporting side in action isn't it.

Signing players will inevitably cost more than hours before the window shuts (many of the reasons have been discussed above).

I'm sure one of the main conversations around Rockcliffe currently regards "getting to the end of the window in a solid position with this squad in order to pick up bargains".

Whilst I understand the logic it's not necessarily a solid approach as a few dodgy results could mean we rush through overpriced signings in the interim.

There is a difference between being happy about something and understanding why something is happening.
Saying that you don't understand why people are saying 'relax' isn't the same as not understanding why it's happening.
I could be on the titanic and understand what's happening but still not understand the people standing round saying 'relax'.

The club have clearly got themselves in a pickle. There was lots of talk before the last season finished saying that targets are already identified and that we would move fast. Due to market innertia and not having funds means that moving fast is by the end of the window.
We've given ourselves more to do by letting Payero go then finding we're going to lose Tav.
We've made this season tough by loaning forwards last season meaning that we went into this window with hardly anyone up front.

The question now is, how many point head start are the 'relax' people happy to give our promotion rivals before they are no longer relaxed about the situation?

People aren't saying relax. They are saying it is what it is. The team we played on Saturday had signed fewer players than us. The idea that our rivals are getting ahead of us is not correct.

I'd hedge a bet (without looking!) that they haven't lost as many of last season's 1st team squad as us though.. and they had a Premier League squad to start with.

Four out four in. They didn't have a premier League squad. They finished below us. We have lost one important player. The rest are squad options. You don't need to rest players in August.

I say it every year but the window should close the day before the season starts. Including loans. And the loan system should be overhauled too

With all the money that premiership teams get, sponsorship, prize money etc I don't think they should be allowed to take in loan players.

I said none and it's simply because I think we are being held to blackmail by other clubs as we've just sold two players for around £25m. I think the price goes up if Boro come calling.

zero expectation = zero disappointment

plus there`s a whole load of other **** going on right now that is more concerning

Do we win a prize for geting the right answer?

On the point about being held to ransom for having money in the bank ... whose fault would that be? Other clubs are holding players until a replacement is ready to sign. Not us.

Why didn’t we? We didn’t have anything in reserve, we’ve sold a starting player with no cover. Absolutely ludicrous to argue that’s normal or what the manager wants.

Only one would have got a game for us, Tav. Only one would have got a game for them, Johnstone.

They've improved the side, we've improved the side. Simple as that

I don't understand the 'the window is open for another month, relax' view.

That's true, but we've got a LOT of games to play between now and then. We've already dropped 2 points due to not having someone in the team capable of putting the ball in the back of the net.

How many more dropped points will we suffer between now and the window closing if we don't bring in players.

The bench is frightfully thin, especially when you look at who WBA were bringing on.. and I believe there's 3-4 players to come into that starting 11.

We missed out by a whisker last year. Small margins. Dropped points are crucial.
Precisely - as my grandfather used to say, stop pussyfooting around !
