If signings could’ve been done in time for Saturday…

Well we can sign free agents after the window shuts, plus their is the emergency loan market too. Some of the youth players can step up! It’s all fine.

What might happen is that Premier League will keep hold of players they’d ordinarily loan out in the summer window as the first part of the season is condensed due to the World Cup. The window closes about two months before the international break. Clubs might just keep hold of players until January because of that. If Boro aren’t or shouldn’t be in a rush, why should anyone else.

I understand the technicalities and why things take time, complex negotiations, overseas markets, deadlines, squad building, etc, but there’s just a nagging doubt we’ll enter September with Forss, Akpom and Watmore and some random bloke on loan. “We go again in January,” etc.

If we do, we do. They’re players we signed to play upfront at some point. Forss might spark from the off. We got strikers in January and were less potent as a result. This might galvanise us and these players might surprise a few.

Don't forget McGree can play number 10 😭

This will sound pessimistic or downbeat, but I think it’s safe to say that Akpom and Watmore have reached their limits. They won’t fire us to promotion. There’s a reason the club invested in two strikers in January and that’s because strikers already at the club had shown themselves to not be at the required level.

Forss, we don’t know. He’s got some good reviews so I’m looking forward to seeing how gets on for us. The others, though, well we’ve been actively trying to replace them for three months so it isn’t just me who thinks they’re not what we need. If they were good enough the club wouldn’t be so active in the market and the manager speaking about signing strikers so often.

We know Wilder wants improvements in that area, he keeps saying it. Those above him have failed to do so up to this point. We have to go with what we have, it’s looking increasingly likely that’s the case for at least a few matches. You never know, they might click.

I know that when the window closes is significant but far more significant is the fact that the season has started. We need players to play games and help us win points from now, not the end of August.

They’ve started to bid for players now, as the gazette have just said. So that shows we’re working hard by making bids. They’re working tirelessly on this. They want permanent signings as shown by the bid for Hoppe but haven’t ruled out loans if they can’t agree fees.

“It’s just a case of it being signed off by us or the parent club.”

That was Saturday evening. Be interested to know what’s changed since then TBH.
