Interesting twitter discussion on the USA squad

Genuinely appalls me how many of their fans rate themselves so highly.

Whenever I see comments on Athletic articles or Twitter it's usually "Any of the other seeds would have been worse than England" and "We should beat them, England are overrated".

Now, England are not a perfect side and a 4-0 home loss to Hungary underlined that. However, looking over the above dross, with Pulisic - who can be best described as 'patchy' - their best player, I can't help but think England losing to them would be an absolute disaster.

The "Any of the other seeds would have been worse" argument can fall flat on it's face given that the last 2 major tournaments we were in we finished 4th and runners up respectively.

Granted we tend to start slowly or hit and miss in Southgate's reign and grow into the tournaments properly AFTER the group stage which could help them, but that's about it.

You're right about starting slowly, but I'd be disappointed if England don't win the group, simply because we have the players to change a game that very few other teams do.

I hope Southgate embraces the five subs and recognises the depth that we have.

A game where it's 0-0 at 60 mins against a determined opponent was a nightmare for England previously and this group has three teams that will delight in doing that. Now, only three of Grealish, Saka, Foden, Abraham, Mount, Sterling, Kane and Sancho can start, meaning the others can come off the bench - all proven match winners in their own right.

Re Their views on England and their high expectations.

Have you ever heard alexis lallas he hates us with a passion and drips the poison when he can.

Case in point

Could only watch the beginning of that.

It seems they really, really can't stand the fact that we don't give them the respect they demand as a footballing nation. All because of a daft Sun headline and a USA wins 1-1 result

'Back and forth' between the US and England? It's mad - they're trying to build a rivalry, which is fine - but shouldn't they focus more on Canada who a) are their neighbours and b) finished above them in the Concacaf qualifying, so are more their level?

I imagine his football opinions are as comical as his football ability.
