Larsen interview after 6.1 defeat today.

A player is stating that he practically wants to come to boro to progress his career & yet boro fans still ain’t happy!!
Agree. If he said “I want to go but only to a big Italian Club like Bologna. Might as well stay at mighty Groningen if Middlesbrough are the only option” then Boro fans should be unhappy.

If he is a 10m player then he must be a PL player standard - thats around what we got for TAV and Spence to PL.
So why no PL clubs in for him ? As he would surely go there

We have not had much luck with dutch league players. eg Alves, Vossen and Emnes...
Seems like a 5m max player to me

I quite like honesty which I think can be rare in football.
Same, and at least he played and didn’t have a mysterious muscle injury or “personal issues”.

In fairness he’s got two career-changing offers on the table which will be a big step up and he’s obviously frustrated with the club’s hierarchy.

I think the Dutch standards of being offended by directness are very very different to ours. I wouldn’t like it if he was a Boro player though, but then we wouldn’t send him out to chat to the media.

I'm genuinely not that fussed about him. It's seems a ridiculously high price for someone from a poor league.

The guys a massive gamble at that price. A proper 'eggs in one basket' type signing.

The funny thing is that we seem alright going forward. I think we have enough in Akpom / Forss / Watmore / Coburn and Hoppe. That's despite all the chat about not getting the forwards we want.

If anything we appear to have created a new issue at the back. I'm not convinced we are remotely sure what our first choice back 3 (5) are. Well more so what combination. We don't look like keeping a clean sheet.

I agree with all of that except having enough in Akpom / Forss / Watmore / Coburn and Hoppe. I just don’t think there’s enough goals in that lot. We need a ‘marquee’ signing, someone to be the focal point of our attack. We don’t have that right now.

In his interview he reiterated his desire to play Champions League football. So if MFC are of geniune interest to him has anyone actually informed him as to which division we play in?

The Eredivisie to the premier league is a huge step up, he may not get many games if he went straight there and it takes him a while to adapt, he might think a season or two with us hoping the second one is premier league will get him a huge move. We may of also highlighted to him we dont stand in a players way if they get the chance to move up, as highlighted with the Tav and Spence sales.

Or maybe Fjortoft is his hero.

He’s been shafted and he’s rightfully bitter tav wasn’t as we honoured our agreement.

That’s the big difference
Spot on.
Hes 22 and wants to get up the ladder.
Seems like his club are being greedy and thinking they can keep hold of an unhappy player.
Bit like shooting themselves in the foot.
Im hoping he comes to us.(y)

If anyone has nowt to do for the next hour an a half:

To sum up this circular conversation for those just tuning in and wondering whether to read the whole thread: some people think JSL was disrespectful to his current club in his interview, other people don’t.

His interview was a lot more than that, mentioning interest from England, Italy all these clubs just way to much info for an interview in the aftermath of a game.
the interviewer brought those up, and he was probably too honest due to his frustration.

He's right that Groningen are now holding him back and that a fair offer his been put in for him. He should probably put a transfer request in to force the move through.

I'm not sure it's directly disrespectful for fans, he's simply saying Groningen can't take his career to the heights he believes it should be at. Some fans will have beef with that, but that's fans, the reality is Groningen can't give him the platform what he wants because they play in a relatively poor league

I am just seeing it from a point of view of a fan, if for instance Fry gave us an interview like that after we had just been smashed 6-1 by Watford i wouldn’t be happy and neither would majority of our fan base. That’s the point I’m making, if he signs I will be happy as he looks like he will be a great option but I can’t sit and pretend I’m delighted about his openness.

yes any groningen fan will be down about that, but groningen are a stepping stone club, their model is to buy low sell high, so they know the score.

None of us really know the inner workings of our club, but there does appear to be a case of the player has had his head turned and is now thinking the grass is greener.

When other clubs do this to us like Liverpool and Ziege then there is hell on,are we doing something similar to Groningen?

Not Steve Gibsons style surely.

I really want us to sign him but nothing more certain if he smashes it with us,he will actively be looking for another move.
