Dael Fry

Think after yesterday we won't be starting with both Fry and Lenihan unless we have no choice. I'm not sure Wilder really fancies him, other than back up to Lenihan. Fry will move further down the pecking order too when we sign a LCB (Greaves) and I can see him leaving by the end of the month if we get a decent offer.

If selling him gets us Greaves and a cheap Sander Berge type in midfield I'd reluctantly accept it.

I couldn't understand what he was doing yesterday passing it out, it seems to have been against Wilder's instructions too by the fact he hooked him.

Dijksteel-Lenihan-Greaves to start, with McNair, Smith and maybe a loan or free in the mould of Bamba/Peltier to provide cover should do us.

I'd also add I don't think the constant change in personnel and the position those personnel are playing in is helping us, pick your best three who can implement your game plan and stick with those until form or injury forces a change.

Lad on oneBoro reckons Greaves is very close to signing. Hope so because he would be ideal for what we need. It would be a shame if Fry goes, but he does seem to have stagnated a bit over the last year or two, and I don't think he really fits the bill for what Wilder wants. I wonder how I'd feel about Fry if he wasn't local and hadn't come through the academy.

Thought Dijksteel was our best defender yesterday and he wasn’t even at his best. He suits the system the most and understands what Wilder wants from him. Loved that run in the first half where he got us up the pitch.

I think we'll see that after the end of this transfer window once we (hopefully) have the players Wilder wants.

Yes when did he suddenly turn into Patrick viera.

I said this about 3 weeks ago that one of McNair or Fry would end up sold, and probably Fry. I'm more certain now. We've sold Spence (15), Tav (12) and could get about 10m for Fry. 37m in.

We've spent fees on Hoppe (2.5m), Forss (3m) and that's it. Fry out would allow us to get Greaves (6.5m) and Larsen (9.5m) and still be 16m in profit. Now we would still need 3 more players, of which 2 would need to be transfers or free transfers and 1 a loan. But things would be slotting into place. 2m on a back up midfielder, 1m or free backup CB and then Muniz on loan and we would have a 10/10 summer recruitment

I assume the constant faffing about is to replicate that on the left, it is those overloads and forward momentum Wilder is expecting from two of the CB's and one to organise and boss it at the back and sit deeper to clean up with the DCM.

Fry and Lenihan would be the obvious sitters, Fry the better marker and out and out defender for me, Lenihan more aggressive and a better passer and footballer.

Ideally I'd keep both to compete for the central berth, but that might not be realistic.

I think Wilder will have made his mind up after yesterday and the experiment against Barnsley last Wednesday. Fully expecting Fry to go after his HT hooking yesterday.

It was very interesting that he hooked Fry for tactical reasons, rather than removed him due to injury worries. Don’t know if there is a danger of reading too much into that or not, but it would certainly seem like Fry isn’t fancied at the minute. Guess we’ll know in the next few weeks.
Lenihan, Dijksteel, McNair, Bola, Smith…
Is that enough to cover the 3 spots should we lose Fry and add Greaves?
I’d say yes

Sadly I agree. It's a shame as what we've seen so far I don't think Lenihan is an upgrade on Fry on the pitch. Maybe his leadership qualities and attitude of it that is driving the decision

I don't know if it was just because of injuries and suspensions but until we get a proper LCB I'd prefer to see McNair there than any of the other options. He can play the position, would just be better if we was left footed. Now that we have a proper LWB it might work better than it did for him with Taylor and Bola as the LWB. Gives us more solidity at he back having a settled back 3 than chopping and changing every week as well. Ideally Greaves will come in and take that position but if not I think McNair is still our best option.

I'm a big fan of Fry but you have to say that it hasn't clicked for him under CW really and his recent comments about him were damning with faint praise I thought, so it may be that he's moved on this summer.

I thought he really struggled yesterday and wasn't surprised to see him get the hook. He looked a bit lost and was beaten too easily too many times, including for their disallowed goal IIRC.

But if he does go we then need another to back up Lenihen?

Its been 7 years since he signed his first professional contract with us.
155 Boro appearances.
Hes 25 on 30th August.
We could get a decent price - and it might do Dael no harm to have a change of scenery?
£10M(y)

It seemed harsh to highlight Fry. I think he's made his mind up about him. I think we'd be mad to move him on.

I'd be every bit as concerned as to how many times Lenihan han gets turned and is costing us. He's not been mentioned yet. You could easily of hooked him yesterday ahead of Fry
