Michael Carrick was delighted to give plenty of his squad an opportunity to impress in Saturday's mid-season friendly win over Hibernian.
The Boro boss shuffled his pack with an almost fully changed eleven turning out in each half at Easter Road, the Teessiders winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Chuba Akpom and Sonny Finch.
"I enjoyed it," Carrick said.
"It’s a chance for the lads to get some minutes, the ones who haven’t played and a great opportunity for some young players.
"Because the team’s being playing so well there are players who haven’t been able to get as many minutes as they would like, and I understand that. We’ve spoken about that in the past few weeks - how important those boys are for us for the rest of the season.
"I tried to be fair to everyone in a sense and pick two balanced teams for each half."
The Head Coach was pleased by the way Boro went about their business in what was the first match practice since the 2-1 win at Norwich City.
"There’s always something to take from games like this, and there were some good things. The young boys got the opportunity to express themselves and the senior boys looked after them well, and obviously it’s nice to win.
"All in all, it was a good day."
