£22bn Track & Trace

Not remotely fit for purpose and potentially contributed to untold numbers of deaths with it's lack of any sort of coherent use of data. And for what? To line the pockets of some Tories and their donors?

Not like you to mention Brexit.

This government is corrupt, I get that. But it had the vaccine policy right, Germany France Spain and the EU didn't.

The "but" rational of distracting from other incompetence and failures that cost thousands of lives at an extortionate cost to the benefit of a few.

the one thing the tories do is say one thing and do another, thus looking after themselves and their own.

Labour would do well to take a leaf out of that particular page in the political book for dummies.

Its a strange one. The Track and Trace is a gold mine for some. But I think the pandemic has caught most countries out, I know some have done better than others.

I am really concerned about the effect it has on mental well-being. It's not measurable but I would say in my small world it has effected about 30%

The truth is the government got the vaccine policy right, and it should have got it right. I see no reason why it should have got it wrong, does anyone else think there would be an excuse to get vaccine rollout wrong? I suspect it is notable, because it is the only thing this shambles of a government has got right.

£22 billion?

And you are bothered about that?

Looking at Rishi’s unbelievable mountain of tax payers debt which he ‘honestly’ admitted to yesterday, it’s small change.

One thing about Rishi and co, they certainly know how to max out on the credit card.

If only the NHS was provided with the billions Serco have been.

Only because it was carried out and coordinated by the NHS and not one of Hancock's mates 😷

That’s alright then. It took one gamble on its vaccine policy that paid off. That offsets all the needless deaths, that offsets the billions sent to Tory donors instead of companies that could have helped us during the crisis. That offsets slow actions in lockdowns and ignoring scientific advice that has caused more deaths. That offsets spending ten years slowly dismantling the NHS so it can’t cope that has caused more deaths. That’s all ok because one on single solitary aspect of the Covid nightmare we are “beating” Europe. Dear good lord in heaven.

There really should be a transparent public enquiry into where that money has gone. It is simply not feasible that £22 billion was the cost of delivering the solution. In essence we've got an app frontend, backend system (both of which I think already existed prior to being purchased?) and the wages for some "track and tracers" (or were they volunteers?)

Of course we all know the actual answer - "we need something to manage track and trace"....."that will be circa £22 billion please" but a costed breakdown would be interesting.

What does strike me however, is why stop at £22bn? If that's the approach, why not £650bn for example?

Your right, but my point was one more of, they should have got much more right. They don't deserve a pat on the back for doing their jobs adequately, which is all they managed with the vaccine rollout. They ordered early and ordered high. That's it. It's an obvious strategy when the world is waiting for a life saving vaccine.

Yup they got it right and so they should, it wasn't that difficult. The hard part is the co-ordination and delivery, done not by Hancock but by an underfunded, under appreciated and about to be sold-off NHS.
