2026 World Cup

good thread this.

Whoever said earlier a WC in Australia would be good, completely agree! I'd love that be one of the few countries I'd be up for travelling to to attend it. The olympics in 2000 were great and a world cup would be loads of fun there.

A WC in China can gtf though, I know FIFA don't have much regard for human rights but what is going on over there I couldn't have any part of a football competition being hosted over there.

Ooo, interesting. I'm planning on a doing a trip for 2026. Hopefully East Coast then somewhere Central (maybe Texas?) finishing up on the West.

I'm thinking about going to this.

I have limited interest in visiting north America but would like do it once in my life.

Combining it with the WC seems an ideal opportunity

Gutted that Baltimore missed out, but friends to see in several other cities. It'll be a great tournament.

Surprised theyve gone for two in Texas.

Of the "central" cities, any tips? Kansas City has always intrigued me given the musical history etc.

Kansas City wouldn’t hold your interest for more than one day. Weren’t all the songs written in Kansas about leaving? 😉

With all the fantastic cities like Vancouver, Seattle, San Fran - a humid hot possibly stormy Kansas in June will be the last place I’d like to be. It averages over 30 in June.

It's not really San Francisco, it's Levis Stadium which is in Santa Clara about 40 miles south of the city and a pain to get to and absolutely soulless for 49'ers games.

Having said that I may try and get tickets for a few WC games, and combine with a roadtrip perhaps.

Ah is it there. Yes you need a car. Went to a 49ers game 3 years ago when staying in the City and had to drive East through Silicon Valley to get there I recall. Still its Still a great opportunity to spend 3-4 days in San Fran and then hope they put on loads of public transport - either that or hire a car for the whole day and trip around Facebook, Apple and Google HQs.

As for central cities concur that they should be avoided because of the heat. The 1994 WC suffered with the temp and am glad they have left Miami out this time. I would prefer a coastal venue.

It's due South rather than East, if you went straight East you'd be in Oakland (although I suppose crossing the bay Bridge and heading south is one way to avoid the horrible 101).

You could get the BART, which is an experience in itself. Public transport in the Bay Area isn't great at all, but they had the Superbowl at Levis in 2016 (IIRC) but I can't remember what they did re shuttle buses from the city.

Not sure why you'd go round the HQ's of the companies you mention, as impressive as they are (I've worked at 2 of those 3) you can't really see much from the outside and really need to get inside to see the arcades, basketball courts, restaurants etc that make them such bizarre places to work.

Yes south. In my mind driving out of the a city it felt like East. Booked up a “tech tour” of the valley and the buildings from San Fran - travelled out by mini bus. Facebook you couldn’t go in that said. But Google and Apple hosted us and gave us a tour around.

Crossed over to Oakland by BART over to the Colisseum to watch the As play a few years ago On a previous work trip. Bart station right next to the stadium. The Giants were playing away unfortunately.

Interesting, thanks. My wife has always fancied the South so maybe a stop off for a couple of days in Texas. Would probably be looking at a week in the West as we've never done it before.

I also hope they look to improve mass transit access, it's bad enough this summer getting from NYC upstate without a car :)

If you're going to Texas, then I'd recommend Austin as opposed to Dallas where the games are.

The Olympics are in LA in 2028 they are improving the City's transportation no end. Plus they are hoping to put in lots of bike and bus lanes to encourage cars off the road. Whether that works is open to debate.
