At home to Sheff Weds as big Mal decided to go with youth & that was the end of my favourite Boro keepers appearence in the 1st team, Jim Platt has played his final game after 12 seasons & 468 games sadly he was no longer 1st choice

Boro drew this game 1-1 with a delicate Stephen Bell over the advancing keeper at the holgate end

Big Mals team

Kelham O'Hanlon
John Brownlee - after missing 10 games on the trot he came back his final Boro appearence
Joe Bolton
Mick Baxter
Darren Wood
Heine Otto - 5th different numbered shirt so far that season
Terry Cochrane
Paul Sugrue
Dave Shearer - 6th different numbered shirt so far that season
Mick Kennedy
Stephen Bell
Sub
Ray Hankin

How O’Hanlon got his game i will never know. The least best keeper i ever saw wear the shirt.

Dad was headmaster at St Edwards, fearsome guy. Meet Kelhan a few times as a kid seemed nice enough.

I quite like Kelham TBH, he did play behind one of our worst defence in my time
I agree the defence was poor too. I also accept that following on from our favourite, Jim Platt, was a tough ask of anyone. Keepers have always been my number one most important player on the pitch (just my take). They save or cost a team many points over a season and a poor keeper unsettles and adds to defensive frailties more than the other way round (imho of course).

His old man used to give us the bamboo across the back of the hand. Nice bloke mind.

Wasnt Platt injured initially , then couldn't get his place back?
Or was he dropped?
