A Christmas Carol

Thanks. I’ve been playing Christmas folk music to get into the spirit. It’s not something I’d normally listen to, but I fancied a change from my usual song choices. 🎄

Can I recommend this.

About 3 years ago I went to the Dickens Museum which is housed in his former home in Doughty Street. In the very room he wrote the story actor Dominic Gerrard gives a rendition of the novel by candlelight. It was mesmeriting.

Anyway because of Covid he now does it on screen and there are 4 readings. Definitely one I recommend.

1. Alistair Sim...it's simply the best version by far.
2. Patrick Stewart
3. Sir Seymour Hicks
4. George C Scott
5. Reginald Owen (albeit an American film with a bit too much 'Cor Blimey Guvnor')

Can't get away with Albert Finneys version...it strays too far away from the original staves, although Thank You Very Much is an absolute belter. (Trivia...the sets were all reused from Oliver!)

Alistair Sim version for me, so much going on it you always seem to notice something new in it!

Got a soft spot for Scrooged, good modern take on the tale, and Karen Allen!

Yes both Oliver! And Scrooge were done at Shepperton within a year of each other. Oliver! had so many more memorable songs. I think Thank you Very Much from Scrooge was the only one that was a success as a song. And I agree on Alistair Sim - his film is the best.

Iam all for getting into the Christmas spirit and love ACC but can I remind you it's November.
I enjoy Xmas but tend to get into the spirit around the 22nd, to be fair I do the full 12 days of Xmas with ales to accompany.

Christmas starts the second weekend of December. Lights & decs up, tree bought the following weekend.
Then feet up, Love Actually and all is good in the world

I'll ask you to stop this thread now please admin!!!!

Christmas in the sun is nice, but just not a patch on the UK, dark nights, lights, christmassy feel and all that. And my youngest is back in the UK in time for it all (she timed it especially).

One year we'll come back for Christmas.

It's overrated mate. You're not missing much. If you have little kids then it's probably different but I don't really see the point of it all myself.
