Would you want to live forever?

Recent months have people questioning their own mortality.

If a pill was available that enabled you to live 'forever', would you take it?

It obviously needs qualifying as to what "live forever" actually means.

But on the face of it I'd say yes - assuming that the same magic pill kept you in a state of reasonable health & fitness and that there was a readily available reversal.

It would throw up a whole host of political problems though - many of which have been tackled in a variety of science fiction I've read over the years.

As an aside - I think I'd rather have a magic pill that lets you relive your younger years with the knowledge of hindsight.

Not sure I'd like the idea of actually living forever. I'd more prefer to be able to live life without having to worry about death and what that means.

No, I know that I have a limited retirement fund. I have no desire to outlive my children. My Mum died in her 80's with dementia, certainly dont want that or to have to live in care. 15 more years will do me, just enough time to watch another promotion.

Given time is relative surely the secret to eternal life is just to watch endless repeats of Boro games in the championship. You might not technically live forever, but it'll certainly feel like it.

You'd have to be crazy to take that pill.

What if your arms, legs and head are removed? What if you get chopped into a thousand pieces?

An eternity spent like that would be living hell.

Depends on whether your wife and children would also get to live forever, and as others have said whether you live in good health or not.

@Scrote - if they made that pill it would be more popular than booze, E and coke combined.

I think the mental health issues watching everyone you like die, and having a consistent supply of bigger idiots in and around your life would make it hell on earth

I think I’d try and save a few quid. I might even be able to afford to retire if I lived forever

I'd prefer it if we all lived until an exact age, say 80, then just dropped down dead. It'd make thinks simpler and death would be a certain fact that could be planned around.

Right now I would, **** yeah...

But seriously I am kind of interested in the concept of being uploaded into a computer and live on in a non-physical sense with a choice of life to lead. This might be a possibility at some point. A bit like the Matrix maybe? There was a program on Amazon Prime based on the concept and the politics of it, I.e. People being able to afford certain levels of life...certainly interesting.
