"The 39-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having worked with Anderlecht, the English national team and, most recently, Aston Villa where he was assistant to both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.

Aaron started his coaching career with West Bromwich Albion's Academy where he worked with current Boro striker Marcus Forss as a youngster.

He moved to the FA where he worked with the national team at various levels including England U20s when they won the World Cup in 2017 and the U21s in 2020/21.

Aaron will work alongside Jonathan Woodgate while Grant Leadbitter will continue his hybrid role between working with the first team and the Academy, and providing a link between the two."

Seems decent enough to me too.

Interesting that it sounds like he and Woodgate will be on equal footing.

he was at Anderlecht for 8 weeks with Vincent Kompany - and he is a specialist defensive coach - interestingly he has done work with basketball coach, Stephen Curry in the USA.

i take it he fills the vacant 1st team coach slot, the 'ast managers job' is still vacant & waiting for Ooh René! when he returns with Roo McGree from the World Cup.

I think Danks will be instead of Rene, not as well as.
Being pedantic Michael Carrick is Head Coach not manager so would we appoint an Assistant Manager?
As we heard in Michael Carrick's opening press conference, his role is supposed to be very different to a traditional manager.

Woodgate would cover those bases in my opinion. I don't think we'll have 4-5 managers/coaches on the touchline, and the article reads...

Glad that's sorted.

I wonder if René Meulensteen and Mike Phelan were ever realistic possibilities.
Rene Meulensteen works with the Australian national team and I think Mike Phelan is still contracted to Man Utd on mega bucks.. he was in Thailand or Dubai or somewhere recently in whatever role that have got him doing.

So both on big bucks settled abroad I think.

Interesting appointment. I wonder how Carrick knows him if at all. I like the fact Carrick is quite relaxed about whom he works with and doesn't appear to want just ex-colleagues with him wherever he goes. He seems to have the confidence to believe in his own ability and way of working, rather than having certain people with him. Good news.

Aaron Danks completed the UEFA Pro license in 2017 - same course/year as Steven Gerrard who he was assistant to at Villa. Peter Schmeichel and a few others were on the same course.

Although they didn't complete the course in the same year, Carrick was doing his A license (the one before Pro) in 2016, and he'd passed his pro license in 2018 so I assume they'll have crossed paths on one of the courses. The overall license takes 18 months from start to finish.
