Americas Cup

For anybody interested NZ have just won the first race of the America’s Cup Final against Luna Rossa. First team to 7 races wins the Cup.

Dramatic days racing. Probably the most interesting day so far. 3-3 going into rce 7. Nz do the first passing movement of the whole series coming from behind to go 4-3 up. Then in Race 8 NZ fell off the foils to allow Italy a 2 kilometre lead. Then Italy fell off their foils and struggled to get going again allowing NZ to catch up and win the race. Now 5-3 and NZ need just 2 more to retain the trophy. Prada Italy need 4.

Amazing days racing. I nearly gave up when we fell off our foils, and we fast forwarded it to see the end (we'd taped it) and suddenly it was like, go back, go back, as all of a sudden we were in the lead.
Felt for Italy today.

Yeah a really good day just ruined by the Phoenix game this evening. 4-3 to West Sydney. Hemed (ex Brighton) had an injury time equaliser ruled out by cms by VAR.

Phoenix have dropped quite a bit this season. Hope they can get it back together soon. Getting Taylor back should help.
Last day today then?

Yes the “old mug” should be ours by 6pm this evening. Burling in yesterdays race was immense. The best race of the series so far wasn't it. Had to laugh as the TVNZ1 news crew were all o er Auckland last night expecting to cover the winning celebrations. And then the wind died and the race abandoned for the day. Good for all the catering and hospitality though as it means another big day of eating and drinking and hospitality boats.

Phoenix had picked up winning their last two games before West Sydney. They need to tighten up that defence. They were the better team yet again but stupid lapses in concentration are letting them down. Taylor out of quarantine this week so should be nearly ready to play.

Auckland downtown especially the Viaduct will be jumping from now to the early hours.
Yeah I was hoping it would have gone on a day or two more to give those businesses down there more income. The girlfriend of one of my sons works at the viaduct and said the difference between racing days and other days is amazing.
Interesting though that NZ is probably the only place in the world these races could have gone ahead at this time, given our Covid status.

Exactly what I was thinking when they abandoned the second race yesterday.
That was great news for hospitality having another day. Felt so sorry for them when the Cup got on the way when Auckland was in Level 2.

I will help their coffers this evening! 🍺🍺

And well done to our Kiwi brothers!

Theres some talk here of a bid by Ineos to NZ to bring the next challenge to the Isle of Wight.
