And so the Chuba rumours start

"keeping tabs on his situation"

Them and every other bottom half premier league club I'd imagine given he was the top scorer and play of the year in the championship 🙄

Piece of cake this journalism lark.

"Burnley, Bournemouth, Forest (delete as applicable) keep tabs on Akpom's situation". Control S, job done. Almost certainly true.
I could imagine him ending up at Everton.

If he’s go there shows he has no real morals imo, there a nothing club and they’ll be lucky to get over ten points our long term project is much more sustainable than theirs

No real morals?

Give over, what a daft statement.

We tried to force him out in the summer and made him train with the kids, after already binning him off on loan the season before and being slagged off by the management.
He's only still here because he turned down moves abroad and we struggled to sign players for Wilder.

I hope and expect him to stay for next season, but if he fancied playing in the Premier League and moving elsewhere, he'd be well within his rights to want that.
He doesn't owe us anything, and he's certainly not lacking in morals if he did want to move.

Refer to Mr Warnock and Mr Wilder about that.

He owes Michael Carrick and the coaching staff everything.

Mr Warnock and Mr Wilder did not control our transfer policy.

He owes himself, his own exemplary attitude and performances are what got him to where he was this season.

He was already playing well before Carrick came in.

To call his character in to question for even contemplating a transfer to a higher division is ridiculous.

Passionless sport then ain’t it, a club who revied his career the fans have warmed to him crazily, a manager he loves, to then jump ship for one season battling in the bottom 4 with Luton?

And neither did Bausor send him off on loan without the recommendation of Warnock, nor did he put him in with the kids pre-season.

All of that is true but even he himself said that Carrick is the "manager he's been dreaming of his whole career".

He was already playing well before Carrick came in.
Perhaps but he'd only scored 4 goals up to that point.

To call his character in to question for even contemplating a transfer to a higher division is ridiculous.
Who said that, me?

Awww, the fans warmed to him when he was doing well?

That's so big of us.

Almost everybody was wanting him moved on in the summer.

The club certainly didn't revive his career when they brought him in and had the manager publicly slagging him off halfway through his first season here, and then shipping him back to where we signed him from.

He might well feel a lot of gratitude towards Carrick, but the club and the fans certainly hadn't covered themselves in glory in their treatment of him before he started doing well (myself included in that, sadly).

Who said that, me?

You're well aware who said it, you literally quoted my response to the poster who said it, saying Akpom would have no morals if he signed for Luton is stupidity.

Has he not had enough false starts and chaos in his career?

Seriously, I think at this point he's wise enough to recognise a good situation from a bad one. Everton would be massively surprising.

Cursed it now, haven't I?
I just see that type of club coming in for him. Like you, I hope I am wrong.

Sadly as per previous season we will have to sell to balance the books. Akpom is our most saleable / obvious asset so may have to be sacrificed with Carrick having a bit for a cheap permanent or wages for some more loans he fancies. Would rather try and get half as much for a few less important players like Jones and McNair but I don’t think they fetch enough

I hope he stays because he was a major part of one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve seen in my 56 years including the Premier League years even though it ultimately ended in failure. But if he decides to leave for the Premier League and more money then good luck to him.

And when he doesn't go what are you coming up with then ?
Not really sure what you mean. I don’t think he will stay, I think it’s highly unlikely, for the same reasons Kane won’t stay at Spurs. But if he does, I’ll obviously hope he does well next season, but will be uncomfortable if he hasn’t signed a new contract (which I think is unlikely).

Weird though how you’ve said “come up with” as if I’ve dreamt up the totally ludicrous scenario of him leaving.

Really fit into Luton style :ROFLMAO:
Actually he does. Akpom works in any team that plays with two strikers where he can play the deeper of the two. Luton play with a defensive 3-5-2. Two of their 3 midfielders sit quite deep and one is quite advanced but not a number 10. He's best with a pacy striker in front of him but can also play behind a target man type. Luton also like to counter attack at pace and cross from wide with progressive wing-backs. Overall, Luton's style of play is a good fit for him and he's a good fit for them. He's hard working, direct and team-oriented. He's not that creative but he does knit play together well.

He won't end up there. Even being in the Premier league they won't be able to offer a salary that's much greater than we can in the Championship and they will be overwhelming favourites to come straight back down which means he could end up with an effective pay cut compared to what he's getting from us.

He's 27. That Boro Breakdown interview was great but he clearly said he wants to play in the PL. We'd be daft to think if there was a serious offer for him he wouldn't be interested. It's up to us to convince to him to stay here 1 more year.

I thinknthe majority would like Chuba to stay, however there are things to consider, can he replicate this seasons form, I suppose that depends on players around him?

We signed him for around 2.3m/€3m at the time, if we sell him for plus 10m a player in the final year of his contract and until last season had done nothing for the club and we would of let go for free thwn that is good business.

To me Chuba doesnt want to be here or he would of already signed his extension, he has had a good year and wants to go back to London and get a ucrative deal in the prem, good luck to him if he goes, last season was excellent.

Biggest thing for me is, IF, he doesnt want to be here get tge best deal for the club and sell as I for one dont want players hanging around that dont want to be here.

MC & the recruitment team will, I believe, bring in a new look group of players that will be better and more equipped than last seasons squad, the beginning of last season is irrelevant, we got to the playoffs and want out on a wim, I dont believe we threw blood, sweat and tears at it to get over the line again just my opinion, ultimately the squad just wasnt good enough so we need to improve which am sure MC knows and there may be one or two surprise sales and purchases, plus the emergence of one or two of the academy players!
