And you wonder why the police are not trusted

I was expert witness a couple of times in the High Court in some business cases.
I like to think I have a little bit about me but the top Barristers were on another level and the judges astonishlingly clever.
By the time I's worked out what they were saying they two points further on.
That said, in both cases, whoever paid out more for their legal team won..... almost irrespective of the case.
I think we have almost exactly the same experience. I too was an expert witness. I concur with your conclusion.

On one occasion the Judge stopped the case and told everyone to leave apart from me, the defense and prosecution Legal teams. He said to the defense, you have not managed to disprove anything (me) had said or brought in evidence. Stop wasting (my) time and let him go home.
The jury were recalled told going forward my written statement will not be argued with and thanked me. It was the day England whipped Croatia, and I was home to watch it. From writing my statement to the eventual guilty took almost 2 years.

I trust them. Although I don't 'rate them' (if that's a thing😂)

The only times I've ever had to deal with them they have been fecking useless. I guess it's under funding or lack of man power (or some other drivel).

It's only minor stuff. A broken into car /garden shed. Pretty much no f*cks given and 'here's a crime number for insurance'. I even had cctv and had to practically force it onto them.

The very least I expect is a full CSI team or Gene Hunt turning up lol.

Cleveland Police used to send Scene Of Crime Officers to shed breaks, long after most other forces abandoned them in fact. However it is about bang for your buck and there are very little forensics that you can get from shed breaks that are relatively cheaply obtained or slam dunks for court.

The value of goods taken from shed breaks are low on the whole, the surfaces for gathering evidence aren’t great and anything gathered outside the shed can be explained as garden hopping or whatever, they don’t prove someone did the theft, just that they touched the shed.

Add to that the huge budget constraints of police forces and it is really, unfortunately, the right decision from forces to target their stretched resources on other, violent, more invasive or costly crimes. Would any of us be happy that our home burglary or assault investigation suffered because officers or budget was taken up on shed breaks?

UK policing has been pretty much destroyed by the conservative governments for over 10 years now - it will take a similar period to put right, assuming the funding levels are restored to what they were.

And locally I think there is a very real possibility that Cleveland Police will be merged into Durham and North Yorks, especially since another lacklustre chief constable is jumping ship.

The vast majority of cops do their best, but a great many are disillusioned with the police service, which I find very sad.

Another one leaving?
