Any developments today?

Been out most of the day and just checked to see if there’d been any progress and doesn’t look like it?

Has it even been confirmed that Leo is taking the game on Saturday?

Its starting to drag on a bit now…

I'm hoping the delay is down to backroom staff being sorted out and I's and T's being crossed and before long Michael Carrick, Rene Meulensteen and Mike Phelan are at Rockliffe saying how excited they are and looking forward to spending Gibbos warchest in January or maybe not

No reported developments at all today, sadly.

Only positive to take from that is it probably means they're not going insane and appointing Cattermole.

He might be really good! We genuinely might have a gem on our hands and he’s making all the right moves in the background!

If he gets selected, I will back him and support the team.

He might well be. But it’s far too close for comfort to the Woodgate debacle. In fact Woodgate had first team coaching experience.
I really hope he’s a gem and one day is our manager, but throwing him in the deep end would be crazy given our position.

I fully believe the club have leaked it so the many knee jerk idiots in our fan base are relieved rather than disappointed when we get who we eventually get, hence they buy in rather than complain we didn’t get Tuchel.

Yet again, Gibson didn’t seemingly have an iota of anticipation for looking outward for a replacement despite there being warning signs weeks ago….I just pray it’s not a weak appointment. Ie another monk etc etc

If it had worked out with Woodgate you wouldn’t describe it as a debacle.

They are two very different individuals with very different skill sets. Anyone will be thrown in at the deep end whether it,s Carrick, Edwards or otherwise.

If he is the right man for the job, then.. it is what it is. Now what that job is might be viewed differently from what the board expects and what the fans would like.

Woodgate was charged with not getting relegated.. preferably in the most entertaining fashion. He didn’t have a plan other than playing high press attaching football and trying to pick up as many points as possible. (similar to Chris Wilder’s plan tbh) after getting whooped by Blackburn mogga give him a quick pep talk and told him to find a way to win.. have another plan. soon after Rudy Gestede came onto the scene and we really looked like we were in trouble! A few injuries later and he stumbles onto 3-5-2 with two academy wingbacks and we start turning it around and picking up the points.. not enough but hey. Project tred water was successful.

What would Lee Cattermole be charged with? Saving the club from relegation? Near enough every season as captain with Sunderland was a relegation battle wasn’t it? Thick skin? Taking flack off fans? Pretty sure he’s had that before too.

2ppg to get to the playoffs seems like a pretty difficult task for a newbie, or for anyone tbh.. a little over 1ppg to reach 50 points should secure championship safety. Decedent January window.. followed by a reset in the summer and we either go for a fresh face and a fresh start or Lee Cattermole does well enough to deserve a bite at the cherry.

Will our current predicament attract the likes of Carrick and Corberán? The medium to long term project is looking pretty short term at the moment.

Big Balls is what we need.. Lee Cattermole with a Sean Dyche goatee beard!

Certifiable

you don’t know that.
how about this.. chris wilder is not looking too hot hot and our head of football identifies his best mate rob edwards as a potential successor. it goes pear shaped at watford and chris wilder is fired a week later.

agreement in principle.. all the squad data gets sent over rob and richie to go over, the academy coaches are tasked with running the squad through their paces for observation, perhaps drop a few academy players in the mix and take one for the team against blackburn with a view to starting away at Wigan.. fully briefed, settled with a clear picture of the squad and the direction they want and need to take it?

Corberán in the mix because he’s desperate for a championship job, Carrick because it sounds ambitious, Cattermole because it’s not so much.

Corberán wants promotion this season, Carrick wants a premier league team.. Cattermole wants more experience.. maybe?

Part of having someone like Scott there is for them to be aware of the best coaches out there, so you're ready for stuff like this, it's how the likes of Brighton and others achieve continuation. We look totally unprepared.

We look totally unprepared.
I keep saying this and I don’t get what’s happening at all.

Really not in my nature to be overly critical of the club and unlike others I take no joy from it but this scattered list of targets, lack of planning and lack of action feels like a failure of competence now.

Having a caretaker manager is a free hit but you expect to write off those points. Three games is nine points, seasons can change on that amount. We also went into the season less than half baked and felt like we’d thrown away the first 9 games whilst we were waiting to finish the squad.

No club halfway serious about promotion can afford to write off chunks of the season like this. Plus, changing managers every October means every season gets treated as a transitional season - how many seasons have we had in the last 6 years which haven’t been transitional seasons?

To me the delay in appointing someone points to a couple of scenarios. We either:

Fired Wilder on a whim without lining up anyone. Which, whether you believe the narrative that Gibbo went off him with the Burnley stuff in March or not, still isn’t great because we’d had months of very poor results and pretty obvious friction.

Or, Scott has a candidate, Gibson doesn’t like it and has his own candidate. Which isn’t great at all.

Or, we’re struggling to get our target in - whether that’s because of the structure we’re trying to put in, whether we’re just not that attractive a club, or reasons unknown. Which again really isn’t great. Don’t fire a manager with no plan if the whole point of a DoF is continuity, and if good managers don’t like the look of your structure… maybe it’s your structure that’s the problem.

We’ll see what happens when someone gets the job, but it looks like a shambles at the minute.

I agree with all of that Mr Sock.
We seem completely rudderless at the moment and it makes me feel a wee bit sad.

Or we have a number of targets and are talking to them and their backroom staff, taking a measured approach and trying to make the best decision for the future of the club.
