Anyone travel from Edinburgh

I'm sat on a train from Edinburgh, currently sat in Stockton. Next stop Middlesbrough. I know that doesn't help but thought it was a bit of a coincidence worth mentioning.
It's not a regular route btw, you normally have to change at Darlington or Newcastle.

Yes, been here over 20 years, still got my season ticket. I’ve just booked my train tickets for Burnley and Norwich. If you get the right train it’s less than 3 hours from Edinburgh to Boro.

If there’s anything you want to know just message me.

I’m in Slateford, 10 mins from Tynecastle and Murrayfield. If I leave my flat at 8.15 I can be walking in to the pub in Boro less than 4 hours later. After the match I can be back in a pub up here by 8.15.

Where are you intending to live?

What's it like trying to get back following a midweek game?

Night matches mean an overnight stay, by the time the game finishes you can’t get back to Darlington in time for the last train back to Edinburgh.

AoF - Bathgate is a bit further out of Edinburgh, you would probably need to add an hour to your journey times at a minimum.

Always thought it was crazy that you can't back to Darlington in time for connections.
I'm guessing Yusuf stays over or drives.
An expensive business without a car.

I live in Edinburgh, but I don't go to matches very often. When I do go I drive and stay with friends in Northallerton.

It's a shame if you can't get back to Edinburgh on the train after an evening match, but then again you'll be living in the greatest place on the planet, so all is not lost. :)

You guys should start an Edinburgh Boro fan club. Meet for a few beers and a good chin wag! We are going up at the end of May for a week, taking in the Boss concert at Murrayfield. Also got planned a Rebus tour and a visit to the Ox for a few beers. A meal at Pataka is also scheduled in. Can you tell I like Ian Rankine!

If a few drive together it will be cheaper than the train - 3 hours drive. The routes are a bit slow, North of Newcastle.

Where I live there are train ticket discounts for people travelling togther, who don't have discount card. This would help any of you whp pay full adult price.

It only needs 2 of you in the car sharing the cost for it to work out cheaper than the train.
At this time of the season you can’t book to far in advance due to the possibility of the match being moved for TV.
Even with my senior railcard the cost of the train ticket can be a bit steep at times

Jedburgh road is a fun road to drive mind. If your that way inclined.

Jedburgh is fun but dangerous. Those humps are like a rollercoaster. I've been airborne a few times near Otterburn.

The A697 through Coldstream is the most reliable. There are some good straights for overtaking. I like it better than the A68 but beware the speed cameras. Sometimes there's a speed camera van at Greenlaw, sometimes near Cornhill, they nick hundreds of people every time.

The A1 is fine if you make a very early start or a late start but the stretch past Bamburgh is pretty awful any other time. It slows down to a crawl at the Haggerston caravan park in the summer.

Hate the A1.
Not sure what the Jedburgh road is like in the day as everytime we've been up (to visit relatives near Kinross) we've gone during the evening/night so the kids can sleep on the way.
The stretch before the border crossing is great fun.
