Are people confident for next season?

No, I don't think the fitness of some players has been acceptable, coupled with the lack of interest or effort by some players - if they are not happy to stay or worthy of a place stop playing them. I also worry that Warnock - whilst a good manager in his time - is missing game changing decision making when things are off from the start.

man management? maybe we can get this guy in?

Warnock sacked off Gestede and saved us from relegation, what do you want him to do now? Offer Britt and Fletcher bumper contacts and wait to see how that turns out? We've already been there I'm afraid.
Man management is a key part of the skill set of a manager - you appear to be ridiculing it. Getting the best out of your players, which I agree Warnock was doing seemingly well judging by results, up until he started showing some disinterest (his body language and certain comments) and his handling of certain players still employed by the Club. Ok you may see that as “strong management” but we shall see how this pans out in the long term next month when he recruits to cover the players he is binning off for the long list of players you clearly believes we will sign.

You will guess I am sitting on the sceptical side over Warnock

We want what we haven’t got. A young experienced manager with fresh tried and tested ideas. We want strong, tall players who are fast and technically gifted. Hopefully Gibson can put his hand in his pocket for some value for money home grown international talent. Stability is the name of the game, hopefully we can smash the league and spend a season in league one.. it will does the world of good and be completely disastrous. Gibson in out, shake him all about, do the Hokey Cokey and turn around.. that’s what it’s all about!

Haven’t a clue what you are talking about. Have you been on the sauce?

are you sceptical he kept us up last season? are you sceptical about us doing better this season than last? I must have missed his body language and hand signals to be honest. I noticed Dijksteel, Bola and Browne doing quite well, I noticed Dael Fry improving massively, Paddy McNair too.

I don’t think he gave Britt Assombalonga a fair crack of the whip handing him the captaincy an all. Don’t get me started on how he let Ashley Fletcher just stay being injured too!!

I‘ve already said he got some excellent results and that his style was working albeit inconsistent performances. But you live and die by results and you can’t spin it forever that he’s been getting silk purses out of sows ears. You expected play offs. Indeed you were certain. We may actually finish in the bottom half. So has he met your expectations or was your confident prediction of the playoffs just wishful fan optimism? You also asked am I confident for next season. I want to say yes but I don’t feel I can on the evidence of the last two months.

I want to see in these lst 5 games in what are “easier” fixtures a good solid finish to the season. I don’t want to see us going through the motions and players yearning for the beach as that won’t inspire any confidence for next season.

No, I didn’t expect the playoffs. I did a pre season prediction to show what a decent playoff run would look like and we weren’t that far off. I thought there were certain points in the season where it was possible and it was possible right up until we were beaten by Barnsley.

I didn’t say the playoffs were certain I support the team that’s it. I don’t say we’re going to win the league, after every win and nor do I say we are going to be relegated after every defeat.

Warnock has met my expectations, after saving us from relegation he improved us and after a brush with a possible playoff position we look to be finishing comfortably mid table.

I want to see in these last 5 games who we have for next season. I’d like to see more of Spence and Coulson and see Coburn and Hackney get a run out.

Our last 3 games have been against teams from the top six.

Bournemouth took us apart. Watford and Barnsley not so much.

The Watford game was probably a fair draw and we played reasonably well, but we were appalling (by the standards we've set at times this season) against Barnsley. Had we played better this weekend then we could have beaten Barnsley - they didn't look great.

I'd add that losing Fry has been a massive blow in those games.
Agree - but we still only took 1 point from 9 against those teams. I'll admit Barnsley didn't look great but they've got a clear template and it's worked by and large this season.

We've been unfortunate with injuries this season but I'm really hoping we have a set template for next season. Need to consider the players who will still be here and build a style and formation around them. We can then fill in the gaps with complimentary players. I'm firmly of the view that we still don't have a clear view of style/formation this season and we're into April (not necessarily Warnock's doing - the squad he inherited was small and unbalanced).

Confident that it'll be better than this one, if for no other reason than this one was better than the one before and it's the same bloke in charge. Chance to clear out some (all?) of the expensive dross and we're blessed with more than our fair share of that. Be disappointing if it's not better actually. Good chance of a playoff place at least I'd hope.

Confident of what?

Improving on this season? Yes.

Being promoted? No.
I think going into any season, the chances are you won't be promoted, so why should I be confident? The chances were less than 50/50, even at the start of seasons when we won promotion.

Other than maybe the teams relegated from the prem, take 3 of your best players out of any side in the championship and they'll start to struggle.

Tav in particular is crucial to how we play. No coincidence our form has dropped since he's been out.

Whatever you think of Warnock he knows what he's doing and what it takes to get promoted. I agree he wouldn't have stayed if he didn't think there was a great chance, he's better qualified to judge than anyone on here.

It's been a weird season due to covid. Injuries, the state of our pitch, no fans. I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he does with a proper pre-season behind him and (hopefully) fans back in the ground.

My biggest concern is who we can bring in. Mega wages? Forget it. This may in turn lead to us signing 3rd, 4th or even 5th on our wish list. I don’t think Warnock is the trump card he was. Why is it we get/ have players who want to - at best- merely go through the motions? Not great.

It's hard to know, we need a good window, there are some things to be positive about:

- RB was an area of concern at the beginning of 2021. We all know Dijksteel is a good RB, and we now have Fisher as an experienced backup to him
- LB was a real worry, Bola is 10 times the player he was a year ago. He is a year more experienced, which is important, he knows he can perform at this level now
- CB - Hall is settled in and a decent player
- Fry - has transformed from a kid to a man. He was a 22 year old with 90 odd league starts, and people wondered if he was good enough. Now we know he is excellent he will start next season with 130+ starts and is on eof hte best championship CBs
- Ineffectual players such as Spence and Coulson will be bombed
- Morsy - we know we have a decent championship CDM now, he is settled in and now we need a more creative partner to help him
- Tav - what can you say about this kid. People questioned him a year ago, did he influence the game enough, was he good enough or would he drift. He will go into next season with the expectation that he will be one of the championship stars. He had only started 38 matches before this season, so again another season at this level his shifted him upwards in experience and at 22 he is now ready to smash this league
- Watmore - 100% trier that just seems to fit us right. I mean he's stayed fit and doubled his career goals tally and looks like he could be a real asset for us.

There are still some things to sort out, a decent GK, CFs, and wingers, but these are not insurmountable.

Nobody will be signing mega wages in the championship though. There will be so many free transfers that will have the option of 50% pay cut or no job. Britt will face this, Fletcher might get lucky if Sheff Utd sign him. Bolasie, NML they'll be on half their current deals where ever they go

Can't be confident until we see what personnel we have to start next season with, if we can buy and loan the right players then we have every chance of improving where we are at present, we're starting from a low base (5/6) in terms of players who are good enough and who will be here next season. I think we're ok in defence maybe a couple of players but midfield and up front we're desperately short in both numbers and quality.

I haven't seen any highlights recently so I watched the goals from the last few matches today. My god I can't believe the shocking defending and goalkeeping! All along I've been thinking that the only real problem is up front but now I'm not so sure. I still have some confidence that we won't be far away next season but it's going to take a really good transfer window.

The keeper just can't seem to keep hold of anything! Has his panic spread to the defenders? Because they couldn't seem to do the basics like clear the ball. Playing like that we won't win again this season. Aren't Warnock teams supposed to be solid and grind out results?

Here's hoping for at least one striker, at least one winger and a new goalkeeper during the summer.

Warnock keeps hinting that next season will be a good one but I'm really unsure on this...

We have potentially 7 first team players leaving (Bettinelli, Kebano, Bolasie, Mendez-Laing, Britt, Fletcher & Johnson) and we're expecting to replace all of them for better players with a smaller budget and that's without improving what we already have. I'm really doubtful...
I'm confident we won't go down.

Depending on the formation (Warnock has previously admitted favouring a 4-3-3?) I think we'll need:

Probably 2 keepers
A back up left back
A back up CB
2-3 central midfielders
2-3 wingers
And 2 centre forwards.

And that's just to have a full quota of players capable of playing 2 matches a week for a 46 game season.

I just can't see how we'll get the quality of player in those numbers across the line with little outlay.

What we'll probably do is get half of those players and make do, but it will be a herculean effort to get anywhere near promotion.

I doubt we'll sign any cm
We'll sign a lb/cb so that's four positions off the list.
